IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility installation fails - IBM eServer xSeries 135

Troubleshooting

Problem

IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility installation fails for the IBM eServer xSeries 135.

Resolving The Problem

Source
RETAIN tip H173963

Symptom
Upon running the setup program to install IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility (IAACU), the installation exits with the following error: "Setup is unable to find SETUP.DLL, which is needed to complete the installation. Error 103"

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM eserver xSeries servers:

  • An xSeries 135, type 8672, model 24X
  • An xSeries 135, type 8654, model 5CX

The system is configured with one or two processors.

Solution
A zip file containing a fixed IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility (IAACU) is available for download at the following FTP site: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/appliances/135/fixes/iaacu/LP2Setup.zip

Workaround
Barring download of the updated IAACU, other methods of initializing the appliance may still be used. The other methods are documented in the Users' Reference.

Additional information
The issue described above is with the Supplementary CD that shipped with the first few 8654-5CX and 8672-24X appliances.

The behavior only affects the "US English Only" portion of production.

NOTE: The affected supplementary CDs are labeled "English."

If the CD does not have the "English" label, it is a later CD (which ships with the multi-language enabled appliance), and is not affected by the problem described in this document.
