Symptom
Boot can hang on servers with Red Hat Linux 7.1, any FAStT storage subsystem, and more than two Host Bus Adapters (HBA).

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM eserver xSeries servers:

  • An xSeries 370, type 8681, any model
  • An xSeries 350, type 8682, any model
  • An xSeries 340, type 8656, any model
  • An xSeries 330, type 8654, any model
  • An xSeries 250, type 8665, any model
  • An xSeries 240, type 8664, any model
  • An xSeries 230, type 8658, any model

The system may be any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:

  • A Netfinity 8500R server, type 8681, any model
  • A Netfinity 7600 server, type 8665, any model
  • A Netfinity 7100 server, type 8666, any model
  • A Netfinity 6000R server, type 8682, any model
  • A Netfinity 5600 server, type 8664, any model
  • A Netfinity 5100 server, type 8658, any model
  • A Netfinity 4500R server, type 8656, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following:

  • A Netfinity EXP300 Storage Expansion Unit, type 3531, model 1RU
  • A FAStT200 Storage Server, type 3542, model 1RU
  • A FAStT200 HA (High-Availability) Storage Server, type 3542, model 2RU
  • A FAStT200 Redundant RAID Controller, Option part number 19K1121
  • A Netfinity FAStT500 RAID Controller Unit, type 3552, model 1RU
  • A Netfinity FAStT EXP500, type 3560, model 1RU
  • A Netfinity Fibre Channel Hub, type 3523, model 1RU
  • A Netfinity Fibre Channel RAID Controller Unit, type 3526, model 1RU
  • An IBM SAN Fibre Channel Managed Hub, type 3534, model 1RU

The BIOS levels affected are:

  • SM7client: 07.10.G5.06
  • FAStT MSJ 1.0.503

The firmware level affected is firmware 04.01.02.07.
 
The Red Hat version 7.1 network operating system (NOS) is affected.

Solution
The behavior described above will be corrected in a future Red Hat Linux release.

Workaround
Limit the maximum number of FAStT host bus adapters to two.

Additional information
This limitation described above is under investigation; it will be withdrawn when the resolution is provided.
