Problem

After installing SCO Unixware or OpenServer, the server will not boot from the SCSI controller, e.g. ServeRAID, with an EIDE controller enabled.

Symptom

After installing SCO Unixware or OpenServer, the server will not boot from the SCSI controller, e.g. ServeRAID, with an EIDE controller enabled.

Affected configurations

The system is any of the following IBM eServer xSeries servers:

  • An xSeries 330, type 8654, any EIDE model
  • An xSeries 200, type 8478, any EIDE model

The system is configured with the following option(s):

  • a Netfinity ServeRAID-3L Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, Option part number 01K7364, replacement (FRU) part number 01K7352
  • a Netfinity ServeRAID-3H Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, Option part number 01K7207, replacement (FRU) part number 01K7396
  • a Netfinity ServeRAID-3HB Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, Option part number 37L6086, replacement (FRU) part number 01K7396 (adapter), replacement (FRU) part number 09L2105 (cache), (ServeRAID-3H Battery Backup Cache, Option part number 28L1003, replacement (FRU) part number 09L2105)

  • SCO UnixWare version 7.x
  • SCO OpenServer version 5.0.x
Solution

Before installing SCO UnixWare or OpenServer to the SCSI controller on an EIDE model, disable the EIDE controller from BIOS or disconnect the EIDE cable from the EIDE hard disk. SCO UnixWare and OpenServer only allow installing to either the SCSI controller or the EIDE controller.
