Symptom

The system will hang or reboot if a bad sector is detected on the hard disk drive while the Linear Verify test is in process. The Linear Verify test is located under "Fixed Disks" in Normal test or under "Quick test" in system diagnostics.
Affected configurations
---
The system is any of the following IBM
xSeries 220 and xSeries 330:
- an x220 server, type 8645, any model
- an x330 server, type 8654, any model
The system is any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:
- a Netfinity 6000R server, type 8682, any model
- a Netfinity 3500-M20 server, type 8657, any model
The BIOS level(s) affected is:
- Adaptec BIOS 2.55 or lower
The system has the symptom described above.
Solution
---
The behavior described above will be corrected in a future release of Adaptec's BIOS. The target date for the release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2001. It will be available from the Adaptec Web site: http://www.adaptec.com
Workaround
---
- If the system hangs, power off and then power on for normal boot sequence.
- If the system reboots, the system will continue normal boot operation.
NOTE: In both scenarios, do not execute the Linear Verify test. You can also uncheck the Linear Verify test to get it out of Normal tests. There is no method to remove the Linear Verify test from Quick tests.
