Problem

Clussvc.exe hits 100 percent CPU utilization doing group failover for Clustering.

Resolving The Problem

Symptom
When failing over certain cluster resource groups, Clussvc.exe may consume 100 percent of the CPU time for an extended period of time. As a result, resources in the group may not failover properly.

Affected configurations

  • The system is any IBM system certified to run MSCS (Microsoft Cluster Server).
  • The system is configured with Microsoft Cluster Server version 1.0.
  • The system has Microsoft Service Pack 5 applied.
  • The system has the described symptom.

Solution
The resource usage behavior is fixed with a hotfix for Service Pack 5, and is fixed with Service Pack 6A.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in Microsoft Cluster Server Version 1.0.
