Troubleshooting
Problem
Actions to take if you receive 1301 and 1302 POST error codes.
Resolving The Problem
SymptomsYou may receive 1301 and 1302 POST error codes if there is no power to the adapters that are installed in your system's hot plug slots.
When your system is powered on, it is partially configured according to the signal level present on the Data Terminal Read pin (DTR 4) of your system's Serial B Connector. See the following diagrams to identify your system's Serial B Connector and DTR 4.

NOTE : The Serial B Connector is a 9-pin or DB-9 connector.

If this pin is connected through a serial null modem cable to DTR (pin 4) on another system that is already operational, then your system, powered on, may be configured incorrectly and fail. You may receive 1301 and 1302 POST error codes if there is no power to the adapters that are installed in your system's hot plug slots. There are several variations of 9-pin or DB-9 serial null modem cables available commercially. Some connect DTR (pin 4) at one end to DTR (pin 4) at the other end either directly or indirectly. Use of these cables may cause this symptom.
Affected configurations
- Netfinity 5500-M20 server, Type 8662, any Model
- Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model
- Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model
Solution
Replace the serial null modem cable with one that does not connect DTR (pin 4) at one end to DTR(pin 4) at the other end. There are alternative versions of serial null modem cables available commercially that connect DTR (pin 4) at one end to DSR (pin 6) and/or RI (pin 1) at the other end. See the following table for an example of the correct pin-number assignments.
| End #1 ( 9 pin ) | Description | End #2 (9 pin) |
| pin 5 | (Ground-Ground) | pin 5 |
| pin 3 | (Transmit-Receive) | pin 2 |
| pin 7 | (RTS - CTS) | pin 8 |
| pin 6 | (DSR - DTR) | pin 4 |
| pin 2 | (Receive-Transmit) | pin 3 |
| pin 8 | (CTS - RTS) | pin 7 |
| pin 4 | (DTR - DSR) | pin 6 |
