eXFlash DIMM Configuration and Support Requirements - IBM System x3650 M4

The following system configurations are required:



Machine Types: 7196-ADU, 7196-DDU

Install sixteen (16) RDIMMs and twelve (12) eXFlash 400GB
DIMMs

VMware vSphere 5.5 (ESXi) Update 2, Guest Operating System
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

System x3650 M4

Please follow these configuration instructions when implementing eXFlash DIMMs on this server platform.

Software Requirements:

The following software are the minimum system code versions required to support eXFlash DIMM devices.  Please ensure your server is updated to these code levels or higher prior to installing the eXFlash DIMM hardware.

                       
Hardware Configuration

  • Machine Types:  7915-33x, 7915-43x, 7915-83x, 7915-M3x with a matching second processor option
  • Install eight (8) RDIMMs and four (4) or eight (8) eXFlash DIMMs depending on the configuration chosen

Supported Operating Systems:

  • Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 (SP1) all versions
  • Microsoft Windows 2012 all versions
  • Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 all versions
  • Red Hat™ Enterprise Linux® 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 7.0
  • SUSE™ Linux Enterprise Server (SLES™ 11) SP1, SP2, SP3
  • SUSE™ Linux Enterprise Server (SLES™ 12)
  • VMware ESXi 5.1 Update 2
  • VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 1

Supported Memory Options:

Note:  eXFlash DIMM module will operate at 1333 MHz or 1600 MHz depending on how many modules are installed.  See “Memory Module Population Rules” for more information.

System x3650 M4

Population rules for (4) eXFlash DIMM module configuration with 8 Memory RDIMM (2 DIMMs Per Channel at 1600 MHz)

  • RDIMMs install to DIMM Slots:  1, 4, 9, 12. 13, 16, 21, 24
  • eXFlash DIMMs install to DIMM Slots:  5, 8, 17, 20

Population rules for (8) eXFlash DIMM module configuration with 8 Memory RDIMM (2 DIMMs Per Channel at 1333 MHz)

  • RDIMMs install to DIMM Slots:  1, 4, 9, 12. 13, 16, 21, 24
  • eXFlash DIMMs install to DIMM Slots:  2, 5, 8, 11. 14, 17, 20, 23
