1.0 What you will need
You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:
- A registered copy of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3
- Supported hard disk drives. See http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/ for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for the server.

4.0 Installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3
4.1 Lenovo System x Deployment Method via the ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit in Lenovo ToolsCenter
The Lenovo ToolsCenter is a collection of server management
tools to help manage your Lenovo System x, BladeServer and Flex
environment.
The ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit is one of tool that you can use
to deploy software to your Lenovo xSeries server in a repeatable,
predictable manner.
You can download ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit from the following
sites to deploy SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3
4.2 OS vendor Deployment Method:
To install SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3, complete the following steps:
Note: When installing to previously used hard disks, format the installation hard drive via the disk controller before using it.
- Complete one of the following procedures:
- Insert the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 disc into the servers optical drive, or attach an optical drive with the installation disc via USB and restart the server. NOTE Starting with SLES11 SP1, booting the DVD will result in a native UEFI boot by default.
- If capable, remotely mount the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
Service Pack 3 installation DVD or image through the remote control
function of the IMM and restart server.
- Perform the installation from a network installation server that contains an image of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3. For details, see the "Remote and Network Installation" sections in the SLES 11 Deployment Guide.
- Follow the detailed instructions in the SLES 11 Deployment Guide to install SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.
