1.0 What you will need
You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:
- A registered copy of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 2
- Supported hard disk drives. See http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/ for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for the server.

3.0 Preparing the hardware

4.0 Installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 2
4.1 IBM System x Deployment Method via the ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit in IBM ToolsCenter
The IBM ToolsCenter is a collection of server management tools to help manage your IBM System x, BladeServer and Flex environment. The ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit is one of the tools that you can use to deploy software to your IBM eServer or xSeries server in a repeatable, predictable manner. You can download the ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit from the following sites to deploy SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 2:
4.2 OS vendor Deployment Method:
To install SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 2, complete the following steps:

Complete one of the following procedures:
- Insert the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 2 disc into the optical drive inside the server, or attach an optical drive with the installation disc inside via USB and restart the server. Please note that starting with SLES11 SP2, booting the DVD will result in a native UEFI boot by default. Legacy mode booting/installation is required for a supported installation. Thus, please make sure that "Legacy Only" is selected as the boot option from the 'F12' UEFI boot menu.
- If supportable, remotely mount the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 2 installation disc or image via the management interface and restart the server.
- If the server does not have an available optical drive, perform the installation from a network installation server that contains an image of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 2. For details, see the "Remote and Network Installation" sections in the SLES 11 Deployment Guide.
- Follow the detailed instructions in the SLES 11 Deployment Guide to install SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.
Before you install SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 2 operating system on a server with ServeRAID C105 for System x, you must obtain all required drivers from the IBM Fix Central : http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/ Make sure you read the instructions in the README file in the driver download page before you install the OS.
