1.0 What you will need

You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:

• A registered copy of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP 4
• Supported hard disk drives. See http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/ for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for the server.

2.0 Where to download device drivers and files

You can download device drivers and files from the following sites:

3.0 Preparing the hardware

To prepare the hardware, update system firmware, and configure arrays, see the IBM BladeCenterR HS23 (Type 7875) Installation Guide and User's Guide at the IBM Support Portal.

4.0 Installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP 4

If you are configuring a software iSCSI, refer to the iSCSI BladeBoot SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Setup Guide.

To install SLES10, complete the following steps:

1. Complete one of the following procedures:
   • If the server has a CD/DVD drive, insert the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP 4 DVD into the CD/DVD drive and restart the server.
   • If the server does not have a CD/DVD drive, perform the installation from a network installation server that contains an image of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP 4. For details, see the "Remote Installation" section in the SLES 10 Deployment Guide.
2. To avoid having SLES10 hang during reboot, a driver update disk is required for the be2net Emulex controller which can be aquired at http://www.ibm.com/support/. At the DVD boot screen select Installation add 'driverupdate=1' as a boot parameter and provide the driver update when prompted during installation.
3. Follow the detailed instructions in the SLES 10 Deployment Guide to install SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP 4.
