You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:

• Supported hard disk drives. Go to http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/ for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for the blade server.
• One blank diskette to create a BIOS code update diskette. You might need additional blank diskettes for firmware updates.
• If you are using an IBM ServeRAID™ adapter, you need the IBM ServeRAID Support CD.

To prepare the hardware, update system firmware, and configure arrays, refer to the Installation Guide located at the IBM Support Web site at http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/.

To install VMware ESX Sever 2.5.4, complete the following steps:

1. Make sure that the network cable is connected to all network adapters before starting the installation.
2. Turn on the server and insert the VMware ESX Server 2.5.4 operating system CD into the CD drive and boot the system.
3. Follow the detailed instructions from the Installation Guide located at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/esx25_install.pdf to install Vmware ESX Server 2.5.4.
4. Visit http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/ for further information on installation and support of guest operating systems, and configuration and administration of VMware ESX 2.5.4.

Note:

It is important to install any necessary operating system updates. You can download available patches for VMware ESX Server from http://www.vmware.com/download/esx. Check this Web site often for code patches and security updates.
