Follow the instructions in this document in sequential order unless these instructions advise you otherwise. Windows and messages might differ from those in this document. Throughout this document, the term select is used to denote the use of arrow keys, the Tab key, or Alt + a letter combination to make a selection from a menu. The term click is used to denote the use of a mouse to make a selection.

You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:

• A licensed copy of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition.
• Supported hard disk drives. Go to http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/ for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for the server.
• The IBM ServeRAID 7.10b (or later) Support CD, if you are using the IBM ServeRAID options.

To install Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, complete the following steps:

1. Turn on the server and insert the Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition Setup CD into the CD drive. When you are prompted with the message "Press any key to boot from cd", press any key. Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition Setup copies files from the installation CD. This process takes a few minutes.
2. When you are prompted to install Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, press Enter.
3. When the licensing agreement is displayed, read the licensing agreement, press F8 to select I Agree.
4. When Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition Setup displays all hard disk storage that is available on the server, select one of the following options to choose or create a drive partition in which to install Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition:
   • Allow Setup to create a partition: To partition the entire hard disk as one primary partition, highlight non-partitioned space for the hard disk drive on which you want to install Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition and press Enter.
   • Create a partition: To create a partition, highlight Non-partitioned space for the hard disk drive on which you want to install Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition and press C. You are prompted to indicate how much available space to allocate from the non partitioned drive. Type the amount of space (in MB) and press Enter.
   • Delete a partition.
5. When you are prompted to select a file system, select NTFS file system.

   Notes:

   • Setup formats the selected partition and copies the applicable files to the drive partition. This process takes several minutes.
   • The server restarts to the graphical portion of Setup where Setup continues with the installation of Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition. During this process, Setup automatically installs and configures devices in the server. This process takes several minutes.
6. Change the regional settings if you are not installing the server in the U.S. Click Next.

   Note: To modify the regional settings after installing Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, click Control Panel and click Regional Options.

7. In the Personalize Your Software window, when you are prompted for your name and organization, type your name in the Name field and type your organization in the Organization field. The names that you type are used as default server names. Applications that you install later use this information for the product registration and document identification. Click Next.
8. When you are prompted for the Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition Setup CD-Key, type the Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition Setup CD-Key in the applicable fields. Click Next. (Setup uses the organization name that was entered previously, as a suggested name for the server.)
9. In the Licensing Modes window, select the applicable licensing mode for your organization. Click Next.
10. In the Name and Administrator Password window, when you are prompted for an administrator password and server name, type the server name and password. Click Next. (Setup uses the organization name that was entered previously as a suggested name for the server.)

    Note: Passwords are case sensitive. Be sure to use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters with at least one number for your password.

11. In the Time Zone window, set the current time. To change the date, click the button to the right of the date. To change the time, highlight the value that you want to change and enter the new values using the keyboard or the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys. Click Next.

    Note: Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition services perform many tasks that are dependent on the accuracy of the time and date settings of the server. Be sure to select the correct time zone for the server location to avoid problems.

12. In the Networking Settings window, select Typical or Custom settings. If you are prompted, type the applicable network information. Click Next to install Windows networking components.
13. In the Workgroup or Computer Domain window, select one of the following options:
    • No, this computer is not on a network, it is a network without a domain.
    • Yes, make this computer a member of the following domain.

    Type the workgroup or domain name in the applicable field. Click Next.

    The remaining operating-system components are installed and configured according to the options that you specified. The display in the left column is the amount of time remaining until the Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition installation is completed. This process might take several minutes.

    When Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition Setup has completed installation, the server automatically restarts.

14. After Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition starts, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to log on.
15. When the desktop is displayed, the Windows Server Post-Setup Security Updates wizard begins. If this server is connected to the Internet, this wizard helps you download software security updates and configure the system to retrieve updates automatically.
16. After closing the Security Updates wizard, the Manage Your Server wizard launches automatically. This wizard helps you to add and configure additional roles for the server, such as File Server, DHCP Server, Active Directory, and DNS. For more information, click Read about server roles in the wizard.

    Note: You can skip this step and launch the wizard later by clicking Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Configure Your Server Wizard.

To install the device drivers and to identify hardware that is not functioning, open Device Manager. In Device Manager, non-functioning devices are usually listed under Other Devices and are indicated by a yellow exclamation point. To open Device Manager, complete the following steps:

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click My Computer.
3. Click Manage and select Device Manager in the left pane.

Use the procedures in the following sections to install the device drivers and to resolve any unknown device.

To resolve one unknown device and install the Automatic Server Restart device driver, complete the following steps:

1. Go to Software and device drivers - IBM eServer xSeries 206, 306. Locate the Automatic Server Restart (ASR) device driver for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition and then use one of the following procedures:
   • Click Open to run the file from its location on the IBM Web site (preferred).
   • Transfer the file to a local drive, then double-click the .exe file to run the executable file.
2. Type c:\drivers\asrw for the folder where the files are to be saved and then click Next.
3. When you see Installation Complete, Press any key to exit, do so.
4. To confirm that the software is installed correctly, open the Device Manager, expand System Devices, and check to see that the IBM (Version 1.00) Automatic Server Restart is displayed.
5. Close the Device Manager window.

To resolve the remaining unknown device, complete the following steps:

1. Go to Software and device drivers - IBM eServer xSeries 206, 306 and download the Alert Standard Format x64 v1.0.0 software and transfer the device driver (zip) file to a local drive.
2. Unzip the files to c:\drivers\asf. Later, you will need to navigate to this location when installing the device drivers.
3. Open Device Manager, select and right-click the remaining Unknown Device, and then click Update Driver.
4. If the message "Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?" is displayed, select No, not at this time and click Next.
5. Select Install from a specific location (Advanced) and click Next.
6. Clear the Search for the best driver in these locations check box. Clear the first check box, select the Include this location in the search check box, and then click Browse.
7. When prompted, navigate c:\drivers\asf and click OK to begin the search for new device drivers.
8. Click Next to install the device driver.
9. Click Finish and close the Device Manager window.
