The Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller requires that you install Windows Service Pack 4 (or later).

Note: Before you install the Windows Service Pack, make sure that the device driver for the ServeRAID device is digitally signed. A non-digitally signed device driver will be overwritten by the installation of a Windows 2000 service pack; ServeRAID will not function if this happens. For information about downloading the IBM ServeRAID Device Drivers diskette, see section 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/. Follow the installation instructions.

After installing the Windows Service Pack, in Device Manager, right-click Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller (listed under System Devices), and complete the following steps:

  1. In the Welcome Screen, click Next.
  2. Click next to Search for a suitable driver...
  3. Clear all of the check boxes, then click Next.
  4. After Windows finds a suitable device driver, click Next.

5.0 Appendix

Installations involving ServeRAID might need to install the ServeRAID controller as the primary controller. Installations involving ServeRAID-4Mx, -4Lx, or -5i require that the ServeRAID device drivers are available on a diskette during installation. ServeRAID-4H device drivers are located on the Windows 2000 CD.

Note:
Set configurations for the IBM ServeRAID controller before you install Windows 2000.

5.1.1. Initializing ServeRAID logical disks

Complete the following steps to initialize the ServeRAID logical disks:

  1. Turn on the server and insert the ServeRAID Support CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. If prompted to update the ServeRAID BIOS code and ServeRAID firmware levels, click Update. Otherwise, go to step 4.
  3. Keep the ServeRAID Support CD in the CD-ROM drive and Restart the server. The ServeRAID utilities start that are used to create and initialize the ServeRAID logical disks.

Note: You must create and initialize ServeRAID logical disks before a boot partition is visible to Windows 2000. For detailed information, go to User's Reference v5.10 - ServeRAID (4H, 4Mx, 4Lx, 5i) .

  4. After the ServeRAID logical disks are created and initialized, remove the ServeRAID CD and insert the Windows 2000 CD into the CD-ROM drive. Restart the server to boot from the Windows 2000 CD.

5.1.2 Updating ServeRAID 4Lx, 4Mx, 4H, 5i device drivers

Complete the following steps to install Windows 2000 if a ServeRAID controller is installed:
  1. Make sure that you have the latest digitally signed ServeRAID CD. Refer to section 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files.
  2. After you download the ServeRAID device driver from the Web, update the ServeRAID device driver on the server. Insert the IBM ServeRAID device driver diskette into the CD-ROM drive.

    1. Device driver provider
    2. Device driver date
    3. Device driver version
    4. Provider of digital signature
  7. Make a list of the device driver details to make sure that the device driver was updated and contains a digital signature.
  8. To start the upgrade device driver wizard, click Update Driver.
  9. When the "Welcome to the upgrade device driver wizard" window is displayed, click Next to continue.
  10. When the Wizard displays the IBM ServeRAID adapter as the hardware device to upgrade, select Search for a suitable driver for my device, then click Next.
  11. When the Wizard prompt request a search location, insert the diskette that contains the device driver, select the search location (location of driver), and click Next. The Wizard then performs a search for the device driver from the selected location.
  12. When the Wizard finds a closer match for the device (IBM ServeRAID Adapter) than the current device driver, click Next to install the updated device driver.
  13. After the Wizard installs the device driver, click Finish. Then, go to the "IBM ServeRAID-4H Controller Properties" window and the ServeRAID - Software Matrix to make sure that the device driver is the most current version.
