Follow the eServer xSeries network operating system (NOS) installation instructions provided in this document in sequential order unless you are instructed otherwise. Windows and messages might differ from those in this document. Throughout this document the term "select" is used to deNote the use of arrow keys to highlight and select a menu item.

You must have the following software and hardware for the installation.
- A registered copy of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit)
- Supported hard disk drives. Visit the ServerProven compatibility Web site for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for your server.
- A supported adapter. Visit the ServerProven compatibility Web site for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for your server.
- One blank diskette to create a BIOS code flash diskette. You might need additional blank diskettes for firmware updates.
To download the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device driver, the IBM Advanced System Management device driver, and the IBM eServer Active PCI device driver click Servers - File and device driver downloads.
This document provides IBM eServer xSeries 450 users with the installation instructions for a basic Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) installation. Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit)has different installation options. You might install or un-install options that will allow maximum performance from your IBM xSeries eServer. This might result in windows and messages that will differ from those in this document. Be sure to follow these instructions to correctly install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit).
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) allows you to install additional components after you have completed the installation. When using an IBM xSeries eServer, to insure server internals are cooled properly, do not remove the cover during operation. Take extreme caution when moving an IBM xSeries eServer. Due to the weight, do not try to move it alone.
Notes:
- The instructions in this procedure assume that the server hard disk drive is not partitioned.
- If you plan to configure your server for a dual boot with Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems, you must install the Windows operating system first.
Complete the following steps to install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit):
- Insert the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) Setup CD into the CD-ROM drive and start the server. The server should automatically start in the EFI Shell.
- At the EFI Shell, type in the command map r. This command will display all devices on the server.
- Locate and select the CD-ROM drive. To do this, look for the map drive letter, fs#, that corresponds to the CD-ROM drive. (# is the number corresponding to the map drive number. This number is dependent on the number of devices in the server.) The word CDROM (Entry#) is to the right of the map drive number that corresponds to the CD-ROM. Enter the map drive letter followed by a colon and press Enter.
- After the CD-ROM drive is selected, type setupldr.efi to start Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) Setup.
- The Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) setup window is displayed after a short delay. The Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) Setup will take a few minutes to load. Setup will then notify the user that Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) will be install on the server. Press Enter.
- Setup will now prepare Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) to run on the selected server. Press Enter.
- When Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) Setup prompts you that it did not find any existing server partitions and gives you a choice to automatically or manually create a server partition, allow Setup to create a partition. For automatic partitioning, press Enter.
- The Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) licensing agreement is displayed. Select I Agree by pressing F8. Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) Setup will show all hard disk storage available on the system.

Create a partition to install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit). Select one of the following options:
- Allow setup to create a partition. Press Enter when you highlight non-partitioned space on your hard drive. Setup will partition the entire disk as one primary partition.
- Create a Partition. To create a partition, highlight the non-partitioned space on the hard drive. Press the C key; you will be prompted to indicate how much available space to allocate from the non-partitioned drive. Type the amount of space (in megabytes) and press Enter.
- Microsoft Windows Setup will prompt you to select a file system. Select the NTFS file system is used (unless you dual boot with an operating system that does not support NTFS).Microsoft Windows Setup will begin to format the selected partition and copy the appropriate files onto the selected partition. This process will take several minutes. The server restarts to the graphical portion of the setup and continues the installation of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit). Microsoft Windows Setup will automatically install and configure devices in the computer. This process will take several minutes.
- The Regional Settings window will default to U.S. settings. Make changes if you are not installing the system in the U.S. and click Next.
Note: You may modify the regional settings, after you have installed Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit), by using Regional Options in the Control Panel.
- The Personalize Your Software window is displayed. In the Name field, enter your name, and in the Organizations field, enter the organization name. The names selected will be used as default server names. Applications that you install on the server later will use this information for the product Registration and document identification. Click Next.
- Enter the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) Setup CD-Key in the appropriate fields and click Next.
- The Licensing Modes window is displayed. Select the appropriate licensing mode for your organization. Click Next.
- The Name and Administrator Password window is displayed. Enter your server name and password. Click Next.
Note: Passwords are case sensitive. Be sure to use a combination of upper and lower case letters with at least one number for your password.
- In the Time Zone window, select the time zone and click Next.
Note: In Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) many tasks are dependent on the successful completion of the server time and date settings. Be sure to select the correct time zone for the server location to avoid subsequent problems.
- In the Networking Settings window, select typical or custom settings. If prompted, enter the appropriate network information and click Next.

In the Workgroup or Computer Domain window, select one of the following options:
- No, this computer is not on a network, it is a network without a domain. Type a workgroup name in the following box.
- Yes, make this computer a member of the following domain box.
Note: The remaining operating system components are installed and configured according to the options you specified. This process might take several minutes.
- After the installation is complete, remove the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) Setup CD from the CD-ROM drive and click Finish. The server restarts and runs the newly installed version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit).
- After the server has started, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to log on. When the desktop appears, you will see the server wizard. The server wizard will assist in the setup of any additional Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) components. The wizard will help configure the additional components that you selected during the installation process.
See the following sections 4.1.1 through 4.1.3 to install and update the device drivers.
Complete the following steps to install the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device drivers:
- Insert the CD or diskette that contains the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device drivers into the appropriate drive. For information about downloading the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet application, see section 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files.
- Click the application. In the InstallShield wizard window, click Next.
- When the license agreement is displayed, read and accept the terms. Click Next.
- Enter the location of the folder where the files are to be saved. Make Note of this location for future reference. Later, you will need to point to this location when installing your device drivers. Click Finished.
- The InstallShield wizard extracts the files needed to install all Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet device drivers on the server. When InstallShield is finished, click Next.
- Right-click My Computer and click Manage.
- Click Device Manager. The Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device is detected automatically as an unknown device under Other Devices . Right-click one of the unknown Ethernet devices. Click Properties, then click Reinstall Driver. In the Welcome to Upgrade Device Driver Wizard window, click Next.
- The Welcome to Hardware Update Wizard window is displayed. Under What do you want the wizard to do?, select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
- Click Search for the best driver in these locations and select Include this location in the search option.
- Enter the location of the Ethernet drivers into the appropriate fields and click Next.
- When the message "System found a driver for device" is displayed, click Next to install the device driver.
- When you are prompted to restart the server, click Yes if you do not have more device drivers to install, or click No if you have another device driver to install.
- Repeat steps 4 through 9 for the second unknown Ethernet controller.
Complete the following steps to install the IBM eServer Active PCI device drivers:
- Insert the CD or diskette that contains the IBM eServer Active PCI device drivers into the appropriate drive. For information on downloading the IBM eServer Active PCI device drivers, see section 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files.
- On the desktop, right-click My Computer and select Manage.
- Click Device Manager. The IBM eServer Active PCI (Hot-Plug) device drivers are detected automatically as an unknown device under Other Devices. Right-click one of the unknown devices. Select Properties. Under Location it should say "Microsoft ACPI Compliant System". If it does not, click Cancel and right-click the next unknown device.
- In the Properties window, click Reinstall Driver.
- In the Welcome to Hardware Update Wizard window select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
- At the Optional Search Location menu deselect all except the drive location of the current driver. Click Next.
- Select Search for the best driver in these locations and below this, check the Include this location in the search option.
- Enter the location of the IBM Active PCI device driver into the appropriate fields and click Next.
- When "System found a driver for device" is displayed, click Next to install the driver. The Upgrade Device Driver window is displayed when the IBM Active PCI Device Driver has been installed.
- When you are prompted to restart the computer, select Yes if you do not have any more unknown devices to install, and select No if you still have an unknown device.
Complete the following steps to install the IBM Advanced System Management device driver:
- Insert the CD or diskette that contains the IBM Advanced System Management device driver into the appropriate drive. For information on downloading the IBM Advanced System Management device driver, see section 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files.
- On the desktop, right-click My Computer and select Manage.
- Click Device Manager. The IBM Advanced System Management device driver is detected automatically as an unknown device under Other Devices.
- Right-click one of the unknown devices labeled Other PCI Bridge Device and select Properties.
- In the Properties window, click Reinstall Driver.
- In the Welcome to Hardware Update Wizard window select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
- In the Optional Search Location menu deselect all except the drive location of the current driver. Click Next.
- Select Search for the best driver in these locations and click Include this location in the search.
- Enter the location of the IBM Advanced System Management device driver and click Next.
- When the message "System found a driver for device" is displayed, click Next to install the driver. The Upgrade Device Driver window is displayed when the IBM Advanced System Management Device Driver has been installed.
- When you are prompted to restart the computer, select Yes if you do not have any more unknown devices to install, and select No if you still have an unknown device.
