2.0 Where to download device drivers and files

3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users

Complete the following less-detailed steps if you have experience in installing programs:

NOTE: Before installing Caldera Open UNIX version 8.0 on a SCSI controller, disable the IDE controller from BIOS or disconnect the IDE cable from the IDE hard disk. This might cause system startup failure from the SCSI controller after installation.

  1. Start the server and insert the Caldera Open UNIX version 8.0 Installation CD 1 into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Follow the instructions that guide you through the installation. Complete the following (as applicable):
    1. Insert the IBM ServeRAID device drivers for Caldera Open UNIX version 8.0 diskette (IPS HBA diskette) and select Install HBA Diskette, if you use the IBM ServeRAID adapter when the installing HBA diskettes window appears.
      1. Select Proceed with installation if you use the integrated Adaptec SCSI controller or adapter, and press F10.
      2. Select Proceed with installation if you use IDE controller or hard disk drive without any SCSI controller, and press F10.
    2. Select Defer Network Configuration when the Network Configuration window appears.
    3. Select PS/2-compatible Mouse when the Selecting The Mouse window appears.

4.0 Detailed installation instructions

Complete the following sections that contain detailed installation instructions for Caldera Open UNIX version 8.0.

NOTE: Network adapter devices can be installed and configured during or after the installation.

4.1 Setting up the hardware for Caldera Open UNIX version 8.0 installation

  1. Disconnect the server from the power supply and remove the cover. If problems occur when you attempt to install multiple adapters or devices in the initial installation, install all microprocessors you plan to use and remove all adapters and devices that are not required to install the base operating system.

For example, if you are installing multiple network adapters, install only one first. If you are using a tape drive or external SCSI devices, disconnect them temporarily. After the base operating system installation starts without errors, reinstall the removed network adapters, tape drives, external SCSI devices one at a time. This procedure simplifies the installation process.

NOTE: If you plan to use an external direct access storage device (DASD) enclosure, the following instructions do not apply. Refer to the documentation provided with the external enclosure for the correct setup; then, continue with section 4.2 Setting up the system.

  2. Install the hard disk drives in the drive bays.
  3. Replace the cover.
  4. Connect the server to the power supply.
