Steps
Prerequisites
- Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM
System Preparation
If no data is on the system, a low level format on the SCSI hard disk drive is suggested. Skip to the installation section, if you do not have a SCSI hard disk drive.
NOTE: This will remove all data on the system.
- Start the system, wait for the CRTL-A message from Adaptec (after the IBM logo), select Channel A
- Select SCSI Disk Utilities
- Select the ID for the hard disk drive you wish to format
- Select format (approximately 30 minutes to complete)
- Configure your system to boot from the CD-ROM:
- Restart system, press F1 when prompted
- Select the Start options
- Select Start options sequence
- Set the first boot device to Diskette floppy, the second boot device to ATAPI CD-ROM, the third boot device to Hard Disk Drive, and the fourth boot device to Disabled.
- Escape to the main menu, save your settings and exit. The system will now boot from the CD-ROM.
Installation
- Start the system and insert the Windows 2000 Professional CD.
- When prompted, press any key to boot from CD.
- Welcome to Setup is the first screen, press Enter to continue.
- Page down to read the End User License Agreement. If you accept the Terms and Conditions of the License Agreement, press F8 to continue the installation process.
- Choose or create a partition on which to install Windows 2000. Drive C: is suggested. Press Enter to continue.
- Choose the NTFS or FAT file system (FAT recommended), press Enter to continue. Windows will examine your hard disk drive, copy any required files, and automatically restart your system.
- The system will then restart to the graphical portion of setup (Windows 2000 Setup Wizard), and will display the "Welcome" window when Windows 2000 is fully loaded. Press Next to continue.
- The "Regional Settings" window will appear. Configure for the appropriate locale and keyboard, press Next to continue.
- Type your Name and Organization in the fields provided to personalize your software window. Press Next to continue.
- Enter the Product Key number. Press Next to continue.
- The "Computer Name and Administrator Password" window displays. Set the Computer Name and Administrative Password. Press Next to continue.
NOTE: Store the administrator password in a safe place. You will not be able to get into the system without it. - The date and time settings window displays. Set the Time, Date, and Time Zone. Press Next to continue.
- In the "Network Settings" window, contact your network administrator for assistance with specific settings. Choose Typical Settings. Press Next to continue.
- Connect to a domain or a workgroup, contact your network administrator for assistance with specific settings, press Next.
- This portion of setup is complete, press Finish.
Audio Drivers: d64z14us.exe or most current
Network Drivers: No update needed
SCSI Drivers: No update needed
Bus master Drivers: No update needed
Core Chipset: No update needed
Video Drivers: Dependent on video card type. Please check on the support site for any updates.
BIOS: Always use the most current.
