Follow the network operating system (NOS) installation instructions provided in this document in sequential order unless you are instructed differently. The windows and messages might differ from those in this document. Throughout this document, the term "Select" is used to denote the use of arrow keys to highlight and select a menu item. 1.0 What you will need

• A licensed copy of the Windows NT Server version 4.0
• Supported hard disk drives (Click here to view a list of the supported options and part numbers for your server.)
• If you use the integrated small computer system interface (SCSI) controller, you need a supported SCSI device driver
• If you have added an IBM ServeRAID adapter to the IBM xSeries 200, you need the following adapter, CD, driver, and diskette:
  • A supported adapter (Click here to view a list of the supported options and part numbers for your server.)
  • An IBM ServeRAID Support CD version 4.30 (part number 24P1872) or later
  • An IBM ServeRAID device drivers for the Windows NT Server version 4.0 operating system
  • One blank diskette to create an emergency repair diskette (Label it, "Emergency Repair Diskette".)

3.0 Detailed installation instructions
NOTE: You may install and configure network adapter devices during or after the installation process.

3.1 Setting up the hardware for Windows NT Server version 4.0 installation

1. Unplug the server and remove the side cover.
2. For the initial installation, install all the microprocessors that you plan to use and remove all adapters and devices that are not required to get the base operating system installed. For example, if you install multiple network adapters, only install one now. If you use a tape drive or external SCSI devices, disconnect them temporarily. After the operating system is starting without errors, reinstall the removed adapters and devices one at a time. This procedure simplifies the installation process.

NOTE: If you plan to use an external direct storage access device (DASD) enclosure, the following instructions do not apply. Refer to the documentation provided with the external enclosure for the correct setup; then, continue to reference "4.0 Before you install Windows NT Server version 4.0".

3. Install the drives into the drive bays.
4. Reinstall the side cover.
5. Plug in the server.

3.2 Before you install Windows NT Server version 4.0
This document provides the xSeries 200 users with the installation instructions to perform basic NT Server version 4.0 software installations. Windows NT Server version 4.0 presents many different installation options. You might install or uninstall options that will allow maximum performance from your IBM server. This process might result in windows and messages that will differ from those in this document. Be sure to perform the following instructions for installing Windows NT Server version 4.0 precisely to ensure that Windows NT Server version 4.0 is installed correctly. Windows NT Server version 4.0 allows users to install components after the installation process is completed.

Determine if the system is equipped with an IBM ServeRAID card. If you have equipped systems, review "Appendix A" before proceeding to "3.0 Detailed installation instructions".

NOTE: If you have systems that are equipped with a ServeRAID card, you must perform additional procedures.

3.3 Installation hints and tips
To view helpful IBM server hints and troubleshooting tips for installing Windows NT Server version 4.0, complete the following steps:

1. Refer to the IBM Web site.
2. Click Servers.
3. Under "family", select All and click Hints and Tips inside the left blue margin.
4. Select Windows NT under "Category".

3.4 Installing Windows NT Server version 4.0
NOTE: You may install and configure network adapter devices during or after the installation process.

1. Insert the "Windows NT Server version 4.0 Installation CD" into the CD-ROM drive; then, restart the server.
2. After the server restarts, a prompt will display "Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration, press F6". This message will enable "Setup" to discover that a third-party SCSI controller is installed.

NOTE: The prompt will only display for a few seconds; then, it will automatically start running the Windows NT Server Setup program.

3. The server loads the Windows NT Server Setup program. A blue window will display "Windows NT Setup" at the top left-hand corner of the window in white letters. The Windows NT Server Setup program will begin loading the appropriate files; this procedure might take several minutes. After the Windows NT Server Setup program loads the appropriate files, you are prompted with a message that indicates "Setup was unable to determine the type of one or more hard disk drives installed in the server". A list of the devices that Setup has detected, loaded, and support will appear, as follows:
   • QLogic PCI SCSI Host adapter
   • AMD PCI SCSI Controller/Ethernet adapter
   • BusLogic FlashPoint
   • Compaq 32-Bit Fast-Wide SCSI-2/E

Press the S key to specify additional SCSI adapters for use with Windows NT Server version 4.0.

4. A list of the SCSI adapters appears. Select Other and choose the Adaptec Ultra160 Family PCI SCSI Controller (NT 4.0) Driver from the "Adaptec Ultra160 Family Manager Set diskette".
5. Insert the "Adaptec Ultra160 Family Manager Set diskette" into the diskette drive and press Enter.

NOTE: Click here to download the appropriate set of hardware drivers from the Adaptec Ultra160 Family Manager Set diskette.

6. Windows NT Server Setup will automatically locate the appropriate hardware drivers. A list of devices appears, select the Adaptec Ultra160 Family PCI SCSI Controller (NT 4.0) and press Enter.
7. After Setup has completed loading the selected driver, return to the window that displays the list of loadable devices in step 3. The list displays the following devices:
   • AMD PCI SCSI Controller/Ethernet adapter
   • BusLogic FlashPoint
   • Compaq 32-Bit Fast-Wide SCSI-2/E
   • Adaptec Ultra160 Family PCI SCSI Controller (NT 4.0)

NOTE: The QLogic PCI SCSI Host adapter is replaced with the Adaptec Ultra160 family PCI SCSI Controller (NT 4.0).

8. This next "Windows NT Server Setup" window displays "Welcome to Setup" at the top left-hand corner in white bold letters. Press Enter to set up "Windows NT Server".
9. Windows NT Server Setup now attempts to detect installed controllers and their corresponding drivers. The following controllers should be listed by Windows NT Server Setup:
   • IDE CD-ROM (AT API 1.2) /PCI IDE controller
   • Adaptec Ultra160 Family PCI SCSI controller (NT 4.0)

Press Enter.

10. Setup might state that the system random-access memory (RAM) capabilities are very large. If this message appears, press Enter.
11. Setup now prompts you that the hard drive is either new or has been erased, and it warns you that if you continue Setup, it might result in permanent loss in the system startup hard disk. Press C to continue.
12. The "Windows NT Server setup" now displays the licensing agreement. Read the licensing agreement and press Page Down to scroll onto the next page. Continue to do so until the last page; then, press F8 to agree.
13. The "Windows NT Server Setup" menu displays the major hardware components that are installed.

NOTE: This list is not a definitive list and is only meant to provide enough basic hardware compatibility to complete setup.

Make changes by pressing the UP and DOWN arrow keys to select the item to be changed; then, press Enter to display your options.

When you are finished, press Enter.

14. "Windows NT Server Setup" displays all hard disk drive storage that is available on the system. You may choose or create a partition into which to install Windows NT Server. If the hard disk drive is new, there is no partitioned space. Press the C key to create a partition.
15. In the next window under "Create Partition Size", delete the default value, type 4097, and press Enter.

NOTE: The maximum size boot partition that can be created with Windows NT Server version 4.0 Setup is 4 GB.

Setup brings you back to the previous window. "C: New (unformatted) 4094 MB" will appear highlighted. If it is not highlighted, highlight it and press Enter.

16. Select NTFS when you are prompted to choose between the FAT and NTFS File systems. Be sure that "NTFS" is selected. Select Format the Partition using NTFS file; then, press Enter to format the drive.
17. After you select and/or format a target logical drive for installing Windows NT Server, you will be prompted to supply a directory name. By default, Windows NT Server will be installed onto directory C: and into the path \WINNT. Press Enter if this is the planned directory or change the location by typing in a different target directory.
18. Before you copy Windows NT Server files into the target directory, Windows NT Server Setup prompts you to examine your configured hard disk drive for corruption.

Press Enter to allow Setup to perform an exhaustive secondary examination of the server hard disk drive.

NOTE: Be sure to perform an exhaustive secondary examination. If Windows NT Server is installed onto a disk that is partially corrupt, the system might fail to start or it might lose valuable data.

19. Windows NT Server Setup will copy the appropriate system files into the specified directory and partition. A progress bar with a percentage counter will appear during the file copying process. Detailed file information will appear in the lower right-hand corner of the window. After the required files are copied, a prompt will display the following message " This portion of setup is complete." Remove the diskettes and the Windows NT Server Setup CD-ROM from the drives; then, press Enter to restart the server. Windows NT Server will now boot into the graphical portion of Setup.
20. During the restart, a "Virus Warning" window will appear and it will read that the "boot sector has been changed". The change is expected; therefore, select Change is expected and press Enter. Setup loads additional files, and the server will restart.
21. During the second restart, the virus warning displays once more. Select Change is Expected and press Enter.
22. The graphical portion of Windows NT Server Setup appears. You will be prompted to insert the "Windows NT Server Setup CD-ROM". Insert the CD and click OK to allow Windows NT Server Setup to run.
23. Windows NT Server Setup wizard guides you through the graphical portion of Windows NT Server Setup in steps 27 through 49. Setup wizard allows you to scroll back and forth freely between several windows of options and make as many changes as needed before you commit to the choices that you made.
24. You are prompted to type in your name and organization (optional). Windows NT Server uses this information to generate unique ID numbers for the server. Type in the user name and organization in the fields provided; then, select Next to continue.
25. Enter the product ID for your Windows NT Server CD-ROM and select Next.
26. Choose the appropriate licensing mode. To change the per server number value, click the up and down arrows located to the right of the number; then, select Next to continue.
27. You will be prompted to provide a name for the server, which will be used to uniquely identify it on any network to which it is connected. Type the name for the server in the field provided. Select Next to continue.

NOTE: Servers must not have the same names if they are on the same network.

28. Three server types appeared. Select the appropriate choice; then, select Next.
29. To select an administrative password, type the administrative password in the first field and confirm the password by retyping it again in the second field. Select Next to continue.

NOTE: Passwords are case sensitive. Be sure to use a combination of upper and lower case letters with at least one number.

30. Setup will now prompt you to create an emergency repair diskette. Be sure to create an emergency diskette and label it, "Emergency Repair Diskette". Select Yes.
31. Select the components to install. To install a component, click the checkbox next to your selection. To prevent a given component from being installed, deselect the components checkbox.

NOTE: You may add additional components after you have installed Windows NT Server by pressing Add/Remove Programs in "Control Panel". Select Next to continue.

32. Setup takes you back to the outline. Be sure that "Installing Windows Networking" is highlighted. Select Next to continue.
33. Select how the server will participate in a network. Setup presents the following two choices:
    • Do not connect this computer to a network at this time.
    • This computer will participate on a network.
    • Select this computer will participate on a network and select Next.
34. In this window, you must choose between having the server wired to a network or having remote access to the network. If the server is wired, select Next.
35. To allow Setup to install "Microsoft Internet Information Server Option", click the box next to it. Select Next to continue.
36. Setup will now prompt you for a network adapter. Click Select from List (which will display a new window); then, click Have Disk.
37. An "Insert disk" window will appear. As a default, the wizard will search for the Network Adapter in drive a: (type in a: if it does not already appear in the blank). Insert the diskette that contains the "IBM 10/100 Ethernet adapter and adapter 2 (Intel chipset) driver" into the diskette drive. Click OK.

NOTE: Click here to download the IBM 10/100 Ethernet adapter and adapter 2 (Intel chipset).

38. You will be prompted for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) option. IBM 10/100 Ethernet PCI adapter will be the only one listed. Click OK to continue.
39. Setup brings you back to the "Choose a Network Adapter" window. Select IBM 10/100 Ethernet PCI adapter. Select Next to continue.
40. Select the protocol that will be needed for this system. To select the protocols, click the box to the right of the selection. To deselect a protocol, click the box again. Click Next to continue.
41. The next window will display a list of Network Services that will be installed. To add it to the list, click Select From List. All Network Services should be selected already. Be sure that the preferred services for the installation are selected or deselected. Select Next to continue.
42. Windows NT Server version 4.0 will install the selected Networking components. Select Next to continue.
43. If you have installed TCP/IP, a window will appear and it will prompt you if dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) is to be used. Click Yes if DHCP is used. Click No if DHCP will not be used.
44. When you have installed and activated all network components, a list of all network bindings will appear. This list is a description of which services and which protocols are ‘bound’ or assigned to which adapters. Generally, there is no need to change the assignments of bindings, unless there are circumstances that demand it.
45. Determine if the system will be participating in a "Workgroup" or a "Domain".

NOTE: Check with your network administrator to determine if you have permission to add a server to a given domain.

Set up workgroup and domain options; then, select Next to continue. Enter the name and password if it is required to join a domain.

46. All major options have been specified in "Windows NT Server Options". Click Finish to answer the remaining questions.
47. Set the date and time. Click the date and time tab. Change the time by clicking on the portion to be changed and type the correct values.
48. To set the time zone, click the time zone tab. To display a list of time zones, click the arrow located to the right of the displayed default time zone. Click Close when you are finished with editing the time zone, date, and the local time.
49. A "Detected Display" window will display the video adapter that is installed in the server. Click OK to confirm.
50. Behind the "Detected Display" window is the "Display Properties" window. Use both of these windows to change the desktop area, fonts sizes, and color palette. After you have made the appropriate adjustments, click the Test button to see if the server video adapter is compatible with the settings. Click OK to begin the test.
51. The window will flicker and display colored boxes for a few seconds. Then, another window will appear to ask if all the colors were seen clearly. Click Yes; then, click OK when the next window appears.
52. Click OK in the "Display Properties" window to continue.

NOTE: Display properties can be changed after Windows NT Server version 4.0 has been installed. Windows Setup will take a few minutes to finish the installation process.

53. If you install Windows NT Server version 4.0 correctly, a window will appear and it will prompt you to remove the Windows NT Server Setup CD-ROM and restart the server. Remove the "Windows NT Server Setup CD-ROM". Click the Restart computer button.
54. After the server restarts, two video choices will appear. Select Windows NT 4.0 (VGA) by using the arrow keys.

NOTE: You will have a few seconds to do this before Windows NT Server uses the default setting. The Windows NT Server version 4.0 setup is complete.

3.5 Installing the additional device drivers and services
You must install the following drivers before Windows NT Server is able to detect installed hardware devices. If the device driver diskette is not available, refer to the following links for the IBMWeb site where the driver can be downloaded:

• Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack
• Video drivers (S3 Savage4 Video Driver Windows NT 4.0)
• VIA audio driver

3.5.1 Installing the Service Pack

1. Change your path to the target directory where the Service Pack files are copied (hard disk or CD).
2. Run Setup.
3. Click the Agree box to accept the licensing agreement.
4. Click Install.
5. After the installation process is complete, restart the system.

3.5.2 Installing the video drivers
Click here to download the S3 video device driver.

1. Download the appropriate drivers and copy the files onto a diskette.
2. Restart the system.

Important: When the "Please select the operating system to start..." message appears, select Windows NT Workstation version 4.00 [VGA mode].

3. Scroll to Start, select Settings, and then click the Control Panel icon.
4. From "Control Panel", double-click the Display icon.
5. In the "Display Properties" window, click the Settings tab and then click Display Type.
6. From the "Display Type" window, scroll to the "Adapter Type" section and click Change.
7. From the "Change Display" window, click Have Disk.
8. Insert the new display driver diskette into drive A:\, and then click OK.
9. From the list of displayed S3 devices, select the systems S3 video device driver.
10. From "Third-party Drivers", click Yes to proceed.
11. If a message appears stating that "the driver is already installed on the server", and prompts you to use the current or new drivers, select New.
12. If you are prompted for the driver diskette a second time, click Continue.
13. When the message "the drivers were successfully installed" appears, remove the display driver diskette; then, click OK.
14. Scroll to the "Display Type" window and click Close.
15. Scroll to the "Display Properties’ window and click Close.
16. When the "System Settings Change" window appears, you will be prompted to restart the server. Click Yes.

3.5.3 Installing the Videotex Industry Association (VIA) audio drivers

1. Click here to download the VIA PCI Audio Driver Setup Program.
2. Run the Setup program.
3. The "Welcome to the VIA Audio Driver Setup Program" window will appear. Select Next.
4. Select Install Driver.
5. A window appears and it will prompt you to add the VIA PCI Audio Controller and the VIA MIDI External Port in the next window. Click OK.
6. In the "Multimedia Properties" window, click ADD and select VIA PCI Audio Controller. Click OK.
7. Setup brings you back to the same window as in step 5. Click OK.
8. In the "Multimedia Properties" window, click ADD and select VIA MIDI External Port. Click OK.
9. Setup will now ask if you would like to install the joystick driver for the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro Joystick. Click either Yes or No.
10. The driver is now installed. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now and and click Finish.

Appendix A Installing the ServeRAID software
Important: Set the configurations for the IBM ServeRAID adapter before you install Windows NT Server version 4.0.

A.1 Installing ServeRAID 4L/4M software along with Windows NT Server version 4.0

1. Insert the IBM ServeRAID Support CD into the CD-ROM drive immediately after the server starts.
2. Shortly after you insert the "IBM ServeRAID Support CD", an "IBM ServeRAID" window will appear, followed by a window that displays the current BIOS and firmware levels. If they need to be updated, click Update, if not, skip to step 5.
3. When the system has completed updating its files, you will be prompted to restart the server. Keep the ServeRAID CD in the CD-ROM drive, and restart the server.
4. The system will start from the "IBM ServeRAID Support CD" again; however, this time the ServeRAID utilities will start and will be used to create and initialize the ServeRAID logical drives.

Important: You must create and initialize ServeRAID disks in order for partitions to be detectable to Windows NT Server version 4.0. For instructions, refer to the documentation that comes with the ServeRAID controller, or visit the IBM Web site, click Server; then, select ServeRAID for family. This procedure connects to the ServeRAID Support Web page.

5. After you have created and initialized ServeRAID disks, remove the "IBM ServeRAID Support CD" from the CD-ROM drive and insert the Windows NT ServerSetup CD. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the server.
6. After the system restarts, you will be prompted with the message "Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration; press F6"; this message informs Setup that a third party SCSI controller is installed.

NOTE: The prompt will only display for a few seconds; then, it will automatically go into "Windows NT Server setup not detecting where the systems hard drives are". If this happens, restart the system, and look for the prompt again.

7. Windows NT Server setup will begin loading. A blue window will display "Windows NT Setup" at the top left-hand corner of the window. Windows NT Setup will begin loading the appropriate files; this process might take several minutes. After Windows NT Setup loads the appropriate files, you are prompted with a message that indicates "Setup was unable to determine the type of one or more hard disk drives installed in the system". A list of the devices that "Setup" has detected, loaded, supported will display, as follows:
   • QLogic PCI SCSI Host adapter
   • AMD PCI SCSI Controller/Ethernet adapter
   • BusLogic FlashPoint
   • Compaq 32-Bit Fast-Wide SCSI–2/E

Press S to specify if you have additional SCSI adapters to use with Windows NT Server. A list of SCSI adapters will appear.

8. Choose Other to load the device driver for the IBM ServeRAID SCSI controller from the ServeRAID driver diskette.

NOTE: Click here to download the ServeRAID drivers.

9. Insert the "ServeRAID driver diskette" into the diskette drive; then, press Enter.
10. Select the IBM ServeRAID-4M/4L Controller (NT 4.0) and press Enter. Setup will spend a few seconds loading the appropriate files. After the files load, the message "Setup will load support for the following mass storage device(s)" will appear. The list should be similar to the list that appeared previously. However, IBM ServeRAID-4M/4L Controller (NT 4.0) will replace the Logic PCI SCSI Host Adapter. Press Enter to continue.
11. The "Windows NT 4.0 Setup" window appears. Press Enter to set up "Windows NT Server version 4.0".
12. Windows Setup displays the following server controllers:
    • IDE CD-ROM (AT API 1.2) /PCI IDE Controller
    • IBM ServeRAID-4M/4L Controller (NT 4.0)
13. Press Enter.
14. Continue with step 10 of "3.0 Detailed installation instructions" to run the Windows NT Setup program.

A.2 Installing the ServeRAID Manager program
To maximize the performance of the IBM ServeRAID adapter that is installed in your xSeries 330 server, install IBM the ServeRAID Manager program in your Windows NT Server.

1. From "Windows NT Server", insert the "IBM ServeRAID Support CD" into the CD-ROM drive.
2. A "Welcome" window will appear with a warning to exit all Windows programs before you run the Setup program. Exit all Windows programs and select Next.
3. The "Licensing Agreement" window appears. Read the license agreement; then, click Yes to continue.
4. Select the operating system to be used on the server; in this case, it is Windows NT / Windows 2000. Select Next to continue. This window, gives you the options to install or not to install ServeRAID Manager Agent. Select Yes, install service and select Next to continue.
5. Select Next until you have the option to install ServeRAID Manager.
6. Choose the path that ServeRAID will be installed in. ServeRAID is defaulted to setup in c:\ Program Files\Raidman. If this is the desired location, select Next to install ServeRAID Manager.
