1.0 What you will need
Your NOS installation requires the following items:

If you added a PC ServeRAID 3L, 3H, or 3HB adapter, you need the following items:

NOTE : The above file names and directories may vary slightly depending upon the language you choose. To enable choosing different language Service Packs, visit
http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/SP6/allSP6.asp .

NOTE : Click here to view all the above drivers .

2.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users
If you are installing more than one processor in your server, install all processors before starting the installation.

NOTE : If you install the secondary microprocessor after you install Windows NT Server 4.0, reinstall the operating system.

If you installed the ServeRAID 3L, 3H, or 3HB adapter and plan to use it as the startup device and also plan to use an external DASD enclosure, see the documentation provided with the external enclosure for proper set up.

You will need to install the installation diskettes, using the Windows NT server version 4, to prevent the wrong SCSI or RAID driver from being auto-loaded by Windows. If you do not follow this process, your hard drive will be incorrectly detected during the installation process.

If you place the CD-ROM in the drive at the start of the installation, change the default startup sequence to have the diskette as the first boot device in the system set up.

The recommended device drivers for the 3500 M10s embedded devices are listed in section 1.0 What you will need.

After the installation of Windows NT server v4.0 has completed, apply Service Pack 6a to the server.

3.0 Setting up the hardware for NOS installation
This section and the sections that follow describe the various instructions needed for the installation process.
  1. Unplug the server. Remove the side cover.
  2. For the initial installation, install the microprocessors you plan to use. Remove all adapters and devices that are not required to install the base operating system. For example, if you are installing multiple network adapters, install only one at this time. If a tape drive or external SCSI devices are used, disconnect them temporarily. After the operating system starts without errors, reinstall the removed adapters and devices one at a time. This procedure simplifies the installation process.
NOTE : If you plan to use an external DASD enclosure, the following instructions do not apply. See the documentation provided with the external enclosure for proper set up. Continue referencing 3.0 Setting up the BIOS.
3. Install the desired number hard disk drives into the drive bays. Install drives in the lower bay to take advantage of the additional cooling fan.
NOTE : The SCSI ID of the drive is set using jumpers on the drive. Set the SCSI ID of your startup drive to 0. Each drive installed must have a unique ID.
4. If you are installing drives in the lower bay, complete the installation process of the drives before continuing with step 15. However, if you install a drive in the upper bay, complete steps 5 through 14 before going on to step 15.
5. To install a drive in the upper bay, you should first remove the DASD cage. The DASD bracket removal label on the DASD cage shows how to remove the top cap and the two screws.
6. Remove the cables from the devices installed in the upper bay.
NOTE : Remove the audio cable from the CD-ROM by squeezing the connector top to bottom while removing the cable.
7. Remove the DASD.
8. Use the four shoulder screws to mount the hard drive into the DASD cage.
9. Replace Floppy Disk Drive cables.
10. Remove the adhesive cover strip from the VELCRO brand fastener and the SCSI connector. The adhesive cover strip is on the second connector from the end of the cable with the cable terminator.
11. Place VELCRO brand fastener on the bottom of the CD-ROM drive and attach the terminator on the SCSI cable to the bottom of the CD-ROM drive using a VELCRO brand fastener on the terminator and on the bottom of the CD-ROM drive.
12. Insert the connector into the hard drive and press the VELCRO brand fastener onto the hard drive.
13. Attach a power cable and reattach all remaining cables to the CD-ROM drive.
14. Replace DASD cage, the screws, and the top cap.
15. Reinstall the side panel.
16. Plug in the server.

44. Click Network Protocols to install, and click Next when finished. If you selected Microsoft Internet Information Server, the TCP/IP option is selected but grayed out on the Select the networking protocols panel. To connect to NetWare servers, you will need to check the NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport. To connect to OS/2 Warp Server servers or Windows NT version 3.51 servers, check the NetBEUI Protocol option. After your selections are complete, click Next to continue.
45. On the next panel, choose the networking services you want to install. To install additional services, select Select from list and add the appropriate services. When finished selecting services, click Next to continue.
46. At this point, all selections for Windows NT Networking services are complete. To make changes to any selections, click Back and back up to the appropriate panel. Otherwise, click Next to install the selected components.
47. During this phase of the installation process, you may be presented with one or more panels requesting information about the adapters you previously selected. Make the appropriate selections and continue. If you did not select the TCP/IP protocol continue with step 50.
48. If you selected the TCP/IP protocol, the TCP/IP Setup panel appears. If you have DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)-(This is used to dynamically assign TCP/IP addresses in a network) installed in your network, click Yes . Continue to step 50. Otherwise, configure your TCP/IP settings by clicking No and continue to step 49.
49. Configure TCP/IP by typing an IP address and default gateway (router). Depending upon your network configuration, you may need to configure DNS, WINS Addressing, or DHCP Relay. Once completed, click OK to continue.
