Steps
Hardware and Software Requirements for NHAS
- Two Novell-certified servers running valid, licensed copies of NetWare 4.2
- Hardware not required to be identical
- At least one local disk (not shared) for a SYS volume on each server
- At least one shared disk system connected to both servers
- A connection from each server to the production network using Novell-certified LAN cards
- A dedicated network connection (dedicated link) between each server using Novell-certified LAN cards (optional)Hardware and Software Requirements for NHAS
Initialize Adapter
1. Boot to the ServeRAID configuration diskette
2. Select "Advanced Functions"
3. Select "Init/View/Synchronize Config"
4. Select "Initialize Configuration"
5. Return to the Main Menu
Change Adapter Parameters
1. Select "Advanced Functions"
2. Select "Display/Change Adapter Params"
3. Select "Change Adapter Host/SCSI ID"
a. Set "Adapter SCSI ID" to 7
b. Set "SCSI Transfer Rate" to O for Optimal
c. "Host Configuration ID" - assign a name (ie. right)
d. "Cluster Partner Configuration ID" - assign a different name (ie. left)
4. Return to the Main Menu
Change RAID Parameters
1. Select "Advanced Fuctions"
2. Select "Change RAID Parameters"
a. Set "Stripe Unit Size" to 8K
b. Set "Rebuild Priority" to High
c. Set "Unattended Mode" to ON
d. Set "Read Ahead" to ON
3. Return to the Main Menu
Create Array/Logical Drives
1. Select "Create/Delete/Copy Log Drive"
2. Select "Create Disk Array"
- a. Create an array for the non-shared local disk if the non-shared local disk is located on a ServeRAID controller
- b. Create an array for the shared disk (reserve some drives for server 2)
3. Select "Define Logical Drive"
- a. Create a logical drive on the array of the non-shared local disk
- b. Create a logical drive on the array of the shared disk
4. Select "Define/Undefine Hot-Spare Drive"
- a. Create one Hot-Spare (HSP)
5. Return to the Main Menu
Set up the Merge Group
1. Select "Merge Group Management"
2. Select "Create Non-Shared Logical Drive ID"
- a. Assign ID 207 to the logical drive on the non-shared local disk if the non-shared local disk is located on a ServeRAID controller
3. Select "Create Shared Logical Drive ID"
- a. Assign ID 7 to the logical drive on the shared disk
4. Return to the Main Menu
Back up the ServeRAID Configuration
1. Select "Advanced Functions"
2. Select "Backup IPS ServeRAID config"
3. Insert a floppy diskette and assign a name to the configuration (ie. right)
4. Exit and power down the system
B. Configuring the ServeRAID controller for Server 2
NOTE: Verify that Server 1 is powered off before proceeding
Initialize Adapter
1. Boot to the ServeRAID configuration diskette
2. Select "Advanced Functions"
3. Select "Init/View/Synchronize Config"

5. Return to the Main Menu
Change Adapter Parameters
1. Select "Advanced Functions"
2. Select "Display/Change Adapter Params"
3. Select "Change Adapter Host/SCSI ID"
- a. Set "Adapter SCSI ID" to 6
- b. Set "SCSI Transfer Rate" to O for Optimal
- c. "Host Configuration ID" - use the name of the partner id (ie. left)
- d. "Cluster Partner Configuration ID" - use the name of the host id (ie. right)
4. Return to the Main Menu

4. Select "Define/Undefine Hot-Spare Drive"
- a. Create one Hot-Spare (HSP)
5. Return to the Main Menu
Set up the Merge Group
1. Select "Merge Group Management"
2. Select "Create Non-Shared Logical Drive ID"
- a. Assign ID 206 to the logical drive on the non-shared disk if the non-shared local disk is located on a ServeRAID controller
3. Select "Create Shared Logical Drive ID"
- a. Assign ID 6 to the logical drive on the shared disk
4. Return to the Main Menu
Back up the ServeRAID Configuration
1. Select "Advanced Functions"
2. Select "Backup IPS ServeRAID config"
3. Insert a floppy diskette and assign a name to the configuration (ie. left)
4. Exit and power down the system
Installing NetWare
1. Create a SYS volume on each server's non-shared local disk
2. Create volume(s) on the shared disk storage for each server
Note: the volumes must be assigned different names on each server ie. VOL1 on Server 1 and VOL2 on Server 2
3. Install the servers into the same NDS tree
4. Install the latest Support Pack from http://support.novell.com
Installing NHAS
1. Power up both servers
2. Type "display servers" from the console of both servers to verify that they can communicate
3. Place the NHAS Server CD in the CD-ROM drive
4. Mount the CD and type "load volumename:\haserver\hasinst"
5. Read and accept the License Agreement by pressing <F10>
6. Choose "Install HA Server"
7. Choose the partner server in the cluster
8. Login to the partner server
9. Once you see the message "Waiting for Remote Message" prompt on the screen, go to the partner server's console and type "v.ncf"
10. On the original server, select the direct link LAN adapter for both servers
11. Accept current options by pressing <F10>
12. When the file copy is complete, press <Enter>
13. Down, exit and restart both servers
14. The installation is now complete.
