Mounting VOB fails with no-gpath error

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote discusses why the error, []cleartool: Error: The VOB storage directory "" was not found[], occurs when attempting to mount an IBM® Rational® ClearCase® VOB.

Symptom

SCENARIO:

When working on a UNIX® or Linux® system with no NFS (which ClearCase will assume is in place), after restoring a VOB, it is tagged using the -ngpath flag; cleartool mktag -ngpath.

Attempts to mount the restored VOB fail with:

D:\CCase_Storage>cleartool mount \VOB1
cleartool: Error: The VOB storage directory "<no-gpath>" was not found.

The cleartool lsvob -long of this VOB shows:

D:\CCase_Storage>cleartool lsvob -l \VOB1
Tag: \VOB1

Global path: <no-gpath>
 Server host: shelob
 Access: public
 Mount options:
