WARNING:
Do not perform a BIOS upgrade with the IBM PC Server 704 in Remote Console mode. If in the server is in Remote Console mode, shut down the remote console, then reboot the system.

NOTE: Please refer to the readme.txt file on the diskette for additional installation instructions

  1. Be sure you have the correct BIOS file.
  2. Make sure you have recorded any Setup or SCU changes you may have made before you do the BIOS update.
  3. Place the bootable floppy containing the BIOS into drive A: of the system that you want to upgrade and boot the system while the floppy diskette is in the drive.
  4. The system will boot to a list of options; 1, 2, and 3. Choose 1 to update the system BIOS and User BIOS. Choose 2 for an interactive version of the BIOS update utility. Choose option 3 to update the system along with the SCSI tables. Option 1 is the recommended option for most customers.
  5. Once the BIOS has been successfully loaded, remove the floppy diskette from the drive. The system will automatically reboot when the update has completed.
  6. Check to make sure the BIOS version is the new version as the system reboots and press F1 to enter setup. When in setup press F5 to load defaults. While in setup restore any settings that you made prior to the BIOS update. Save and exit. The system will reboot.
  7. You should run the System Configuration Utility and save your configuration if you had previously used the SCU to set values. Please refer to the IBM PC Server 704 User's Handbook for detailed instructions on how to complete this procedure.
