Resolving The Problem

Installing Veritas Backup Exec v8.0 for Windows NT 4.0 for use with the IBM 3502 Tape Library

1. Start the Control Panel, then SCSI Adapters.
2. Verify that the driver Adaptec 294xU2/295xU2/395xU2/AIC-789x PCI SCSI Controller (NT4.0) is loaded and shows Quantum Powerstor L200/L500, and Quantum DLT7000. If this information is correct, proceed to step 7.
3. Go to Tape Devices, and load the Quantum DLT Device Driver Version 1.08 or higher. The latest driver is located at: http://www.quantum.com filename: d18nt4i.exe - Device Driver for Windows NT 4.0-Intel Platform Version: V1.8 or later
4. Reboot the system, then verify that this driver has started.
5. Start the Control Panel, then SCSI Adapters.
6. Verify that the driver Adaptec 294xU2/295xU2/395xU2/AIC-789x PCI SCSI Controller (NT4.0) is loaded and shows Quantum Powerstor L200/L500, and Quantum DLT7000.
7. Start the Veritas Backup Exec installation program.
8. Click Next at the Welcome screen.
9. Click Yes at the Software License Agreement screen.
10. Click Next at the Veritas Backup Exec Information screen.
11. Click Install.
12. Type your Veritas Backup Exec Serial Number (or no code for evaluation copy), then click Next.
13. Click Ok to acknowledge the screen reading "This evaluation copy consist's of Veritas Backup Exec for Windows NT/2000... (for Version 8.0)".
14. Ensure Backup Exec and Enable Autoloader Support are enabled under Backup Exec Install Options, then click Next.
15. Click Next to start copying files.
16. Type a Username and Password at the Service Account screen, then click Ok.
17. Select Right's granted, then click Ok.
18. Click Ok at the Previous Backup Exec Installation screen (leave it blank because of this being first installation).
19. Select Default (Private) for type of Program Group, then click Next.
20. Click Finish to restart the system Starting Veritas Backup Exec V8.0.
21. Click Next at the First Time Setup Wizard.
22. Select Overwrite Protection Level, and select desired options at the Media Overwrite Protection screen.
23. Click Next at Virus Protection (leave defaults - not selected).
24. Click Finish at Low Administration Backup (leave defaults - not selected).
25. Click Next at the Welcome screen for Device Configuration Wizard.
26. Verify Detected Hardware as: Changer Quantum 0 {Port: 1, Bus: 0, Target ID: 0, LUN: 0} Quantum 0 {Port: 1, Bus: 0, Target ID: 1, LUN: 0} Quantum 1 {If installed...} Quantum 2 {If installed...} Target ID = SCSI ID, then click Next.
27. Verify that the configuration is correct, then click Next.
28. Click Finish.
29. Click Close to exit Backup Exec Assistance.
30. Select Devices, then click Slots. You should see the tapes installed in the 3502 in the (Unknown) state.
31. Right mouse click the slot were the tape is located, then select Erase, then Quick. You will not see a percentage, but it will finish.
32. Click Ok when the Warning message pops up.
33. Click Yes when the message "Do you want to erase data" appears. Note: Ensure tape does not contain data you wish to keep.
34. Tape should automatically load, and when finished erasing will eventually load back into the magazine.
35. To determine if these steps were successful, select Devices. Then verify that a Cartridge Label (e.g. #00007CED-001) has been assigned (on the right hand side, under Cartridge Label), and under Job Monitor, status should show completed.
36. Installation is complete.
