Questions and answers for upgrading the processor in the PC Server 320

Resolving The Problem

Question
Can I upgrade my processor?

Answer
Jumper W6, on the planar, allows the customer to change the bus speed for faster processors.

You can upgrade the 75MHz box to a 90MHz processor.

You CANNOT upgrade the 90MHz box to a 100MHz or 133MHz processor.

You can upgrade the 100MHz box to a 133MHz processor.

You CANNOT upgrade the 133MHz box to a 166MHz processor.

The old planar boards are not designed to handle the faster processors. Without enhanced buffering, etc. for faster processors, you could experience signal frequency problems.
