Overview - Lenovo Storwize V3700 delivers innovative and simplified storage to meet needs of small and medium organizations

Storwize V3700 Storage System is a member of the Storwize family of disk systems. Leveraging Lenovo Storwize V7000 Storage System and Lenovo SAN Volume Controller functions, interoperability, and management tools, Storwize V3700 delivers innovation and new levels of storage efficiency with ease of use in an entry disk system to enable organizations to overcome their storage challenges.

Storwize V3700 Storage System features two node canisters, with 4 GB or 8 GB cache per canister, in a compact, 2U, 19-inch rack mount enclosure. 6 Gb SAS and 1 Gb SCSI connectivity is standard, with an option for 8 Gb FC or 10 iSCSI/FCoE connectivity.

Storwize V3700 is available in the following models:

The 3.5-inch models support up to twelve 3.5-inch drives, while the 2.5-inch models support up to twenty-four 2.5-inch drives. High-performance disk drives, high-capacity near-line disk drives, and flash (solid state) drives are supported. Drives of the same form factor can be intermixed within an enclosure, and 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch expansion units can be intermixed within a Storwize V3700 Storage System. A Storwize V3700 Storage System scales up to 240 drives with the attachment of nine Storwize V3700 expansion units.

The 3.5-inch models support ac power, while the 2.5-inch models are available with either ac power or dc power. All Storwize V3700 models conform to applicable NEBS level 3 documents and to applicable ETSI documents.

Storwize V3700 Storage System functions, management, and interoperability include:

• RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10 for data protection
• Virtualization of internal storage for rapid, flexible provisioning and simple configuration changes
• Thin provisioning for improved storage utilization
• FlashCopy for creating instant copies of data for backup or application testing
• Lenovo System Storage Easy Tier for automatic migration of frequently accessed data from disk drives to high performing flash drive
• Remote mirroring for data replication between systems at different locations through Metro Mirror and Global Mirror functions
• One-way data migration for simplified movement of data onto the Storwize V3700 system
• Embedded GUI for innovative and intuitive management capabilities
• Extensive interoperability support with support for most major server platforms and operating systems.

Lenovo Storwize V3700 delivers powerful and intuitive storage with the following features:

• Dual-active intelligent array node canisters with up to 8 GB cache per canister
• 6 Gb SAS and 1 Gb iSCSI connectivity standard with optional 8 Gb Fibre Channel (FC) or 10 Gb iSCSI / Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity
• Support for twelve 3.5-inch large form factor or twenty-four 2.5-inch small form factor drives
• Scalable up to 240 drives per system with the attachment of Storwize V3700 expansion units
• Rich set of standard functions, including virtualized internal storage, thin provisioning, data migration, and data replication
• Optional licensed functions including Turbo performance, Easy Tier, and remote mirroring
• Innovative, intuitive, web-based GUI for easy system setup and management
• Conforms to applicable Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) level 3 documents and to applicable European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) documents.

All models are delivered in a 2U, 19-inch rack mount enclosure and include a three-year warranty with customer replaceable unit (CRU) and onsite service. Optional warranty service upgrades are available for enhanced levels of warranty service.

SAS, iSCSI, FC, and FCoE connectivity with intermix flexibility

Storwize V3700 requires licensed machine code level 7.3, or later.

Storwize V3700 dc power models require an electrically rated 20A circuit-breaker for the -48 V dc input. In addition, the wiring between the dc power source and the Storwize V3700 dc power supply connectors must be with 12AWG copper wires.

Licensed functions: Storwize V3700 licensed functions are licensed to a Storwize V3700 Control Enclosure. Once a license function has been activated, it is not transferable to another serial numbered Storwize V3700 Control Enclosure.

The licensed function 90 day trial is enabled on a per-function basis and functions do not need to be evaluated simultaneously. A given licensed function can be enabled only once for the 90 day trial per Storwize V3700 Control Enclosure.

12 GB SAS drives: Select drives offered on Storwize V3700 support up to a 12 Gb per second data transfer rate. These drives will operate up to a 6 Gb per second data transfer rate when installed in a Storwize V3700.
