Overview

The new IBM DDS Generation 6 USB Tape Drive maintains the competitive total cost of ownership (TCO) of Digital Data Storage. Its USB interface supports internal plug and play capability with the latest System x systems, as well as external attachment in one of IBM's numerous external tape drive enclosures. This option is the replacement offering for the IBM DDS Gen 5 drive.

This tape drive is reliable as: internal installation via a

  • An internal installation
  • A table top tape enclosure or in a rack environment when coupled with a 1 U or 4U rack mount enclosure.

It provides convenience and ease-of-use features, while supporting high-speed tape backup.

USB Enclosure adapter kit option

This option, used in conjunction with one of IBM's external enclosures, provides an economical and convenient method of attaching USB- or SATA-based tape drives externally to your IBM System x system.

Functional features:

  • Determine the nternal USB or SATA drive or drives you wish to make external
  • Match this number to the appropriate IBM base enclosure (8767HHX, 87651UX, or 87664UX)
  • Add the number of USB Enclosure Adapter Kits you require (one per drive added to the corresponding enclosure)
