IBM BladeCenter enclosure and IBM BladeCenter HS20 servers continue to revolutionize the economics of application server deployment with capacity on demand (COD) availability, while fulfilling the promise to deliver power, scalability, control, and serviceability. BladeCenter standby COD comes with a BladeCenter enclosure, 7 standard BladeCenter HS20 servers and 7 standby capacity BladeCenter HS20 servers. A contract is required and 7 capacity activation part numbers must be purchased within 6 months.
New BladeCenter HS20 blade servers:
- 2x 2.8GHZ/533MHz Intel Xeon processors
- 2-way SMP processing with 533MHz front side bus (FSB).
- High speed 4GB double data rate (DDR) ECC SDRAM memory standard
- Dual Gigabit Ethernet switches with failover support

- Integrated IDE controller and 1x 40GB IDE hard disk drive

Increase capabilities for your high density BladeCenter with standby COD. The new BladeCenter offering is comprised of a BladeCenter enclosure with 14 BladeCenter HS20 blade servers complete with 2 Intel Xeon 2.8GHz/533MHz processors as standard. The BladeCenter HS20 blade servers coupled with a BladeCenter enclosure offer advanced application serving with performance, density, and scalability. You receive Xeon processors, high speed memory, dual Gigabit Ethernet connections, Fibre Channel connections, and advanced high availability and systems management features. This offering provides flexibility and speed of deployment for capacity upgrades, tying payment to the capacity usage without paying a premium price.

The BladeCenter COD bundles contains licensed system programs that include set configuration, set features, and test programs. IBM system is loaded from a Flash EEPROM into system memory. this BIOS provides instructions and interfaces designed to support the standard features of the Bladecenter HS20 and to maintain compatibility with many current software programs. Contact your IBM representative, IBM Business Partner, or refer to the IBM Sales Manual for information on the compatibility of hardware and software for eServer xSeries servers. The IBM Sales Manual is updated periodically as new features and options are announced that support these servers.

Limitations

The BladeCenter HS20 blade servers contain 4x DIMM slots. a maximum of 4GB of system memory is supported with a 1GB PC2100 ECC DDR SDRAM DIMM in each slot. The BladeCenter HS20 supports currently available 512MB and 1GB DIMM options.
Note: Microprocessors must be of the same type and clock speed on each Bladecenter HS20. Mixing microprocessors of different speeds or cache size is not supported.
