At a glance
The IBM 10/100 Ethernet Server Adapter helps provide secure attachment to an Ethernet LAN for server PCs. It features:
- Protection of data on the LAN with IPSec encryption of traffic from the server
- Outstanding throughput and low CPU utilization in demanding server environments
- Enhanced server uptime through redundant connections
- Hot plugability for online system maintenance
- Load balancing for scalable bandwidth up to 800 Mbps
- Blazing Gigabit Ethernet throughput to reduce bottlenecks in demanding server environments
- Support for 64-bit, 66MHz PCI buses for excellent performance in high-end servers
- Adapter redundancy to enhance reliability for mission-critical applications
- Hot plugability in IBM ActivePCI systems for online server maintenance
- Connection to fiber cabling for distances up to 275 meters and fornoise reduction
The new IBM adapters boast performance that breaks through network bottlenecks with Intel's latest generation of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet chip technology and device drivers. Both adapters offer outstanding throughput and efficient utilization of the server PC's CPU. The Gigabit adapter's data rate up to 1000Mbps and support for PCI compliant, 64-bit, 66 MHz buses in the server offer performance an order of magnitude higher than Fast Ethernet. With support for optional jumbo frames, packet processing overhead can be reduced even further, improving throughput and efficiency. Both adapters support packet prioritization (IEEE 802.1p) and Virtual LANs (IEEE 802.1Q), helping to optimize throughput of data for crucial applications.
Security:
The IBM 10/100 Ethernet Server Adapter offers network security features along with its innovative functions for server PCs. The adapter supports Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) encryption and decryption of data packets as they are sent and received over the LAN, helping to protect data from unintended or unauthorized access. The adapter's onboard encryption co-processor offloads encryption from the server's processor to help maximize network performance and free system resources for other critical server tasks.
Server Benefits:
Both new IBM server adapters offer functions to keep your servers up and connected to the network. Thanks to hot plugability and adapter fault tolerance, redundant adapters in a server help protect against failure in the cable, connector, or adapter, and enable online maintenance. Bandwidth scalability allows network bandwidth to be increased incrementally by adding additional adapters that are teamed together to balance traffic to and from the server.
Compatibility:
The IBM server adapters come with a complete set of device drivers for popular server operating environments. Both are easy to install and configure with support for Plug and Play and are equipped with LEDs for a visual indication of network status. The adapters fully support network and other industry standards, including IEEE 802.3u and 802.3z LAN standards and PCI 2.2 bus specifications. The adapters have been extensively tested in IBM PC servers, helping to ensure virtually trouble-free installation and operation.
With their combination of blazing performance, innovative server features, and compatibility with industry standards, the IBM 10/100 Ethernet Server Adapter and the IBM Gigabit Ethernet SX Server Adapter offer exceptional power and value for connecting your server to the LAN.
