General information
The new 9.1GB 10,000 rpm Ultra2 SCSI hard disk drive (HDD) offers improved seek times and almost double the recording density of previous drives for IntelliStation workstations.

This one-inch-high drive far outperforms our previous comparable offerings. With sustained data rates of 18 to 25 MBps, and typical average read seek times of 5.0 ms, this drive raises to a new high the level of performance available for such varied applications as:
  • Recording and playback of digitized audio/video data streams
  • Random transaction processing
This drive has Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.), which provides warning of predictable impending hard drive failure. S.M.A.R.T. Reaction can perform unattended backup of customer data from such drives before they fail. Drives predicting failure within the warranty period are immediately eligible for replacement at IBM's expense.

The 9.1GB drive benefits significantly from a drive quality, reliability, compatibility, and testing program that is second to none. As one of the biggest consumers of hard drives, integrating millions of drives each year, our ongoing quality management programs assure our options customers of the best quality available. Offered with a three-year limited warranty, this drive also takes on the warranty of the IBM PC system in which it is installed, which in some cases entitles it to on-site service.

When referring to hard disk drive capacity MB = 1 million bytes; GB = 1000 million bytes. Actual capacities vary based on different operating environments.

The new IBM 9.1GB 10,000 rpm Ultra2 SCSI HDD provides the highest performance available for IntelliStation. Features include:
  • 9,100 MB formatted capacities
  • 5.0 ms typical average read seek times
  • Instantaneous data transfer rates of up to 80 MBps
  • Sustained data transfer rates of 18 to 25 MBps
  • Slim, one-inch-high drive profile
  • Single drive per package
Originally announced as Ultra2 SCSI Hard Disk Drives, the IBM 9.1GB drives are Ultra160 SCSI hard drives as well. You can now take advantage of this previously undisclosed function with the newly announced Ultra160 SCSI capability of the IntelliStation Z Pro 6866.
