The IBM PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure is a perfect solution to address your needs for affordable, high-availability data storage, designed for industry standard rack cabinets. The PC Server 3519 contains six hot-swap drive bays allowing installation of various hard disk drive options for hot-swap data storage of up to 27GB(1). It also features a 200W world-wide power supply, three 5.25-inch half-high drive bays to support additional SCSI devices, two cooling fans, a PC Server SCSI-2 F/W Enhanced Repeater to ensure signal quality for SCSI disk drives, and a mounting slot to support an optional SCSI repeater card.
The PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure features these high-availability attributes:
o Hot-swap hard disk drive bays to support RAID solutions
o Redundant cooling fans with visual and audio alerts
o Twin-tail capability for clustering applications
The 3519 supports both PC Server 4.51GB and 9.1GB Wide Ultra SCSI Hot-Swap Hard Disk Drives and can be attached to an IBM PC Server that contains and supports either the PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter or the PC Server Ultra Wide SCSI PCI Adapter options. The IBM SCSI Storage Extender Cable allows for two PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosures to be daisy-chained from a supported adapter or controller for additional storage capacity.

PC Server SCSI-2 F/W Enhanced Repeater
The PC Server SCSI-2 F/W Enhanced Repeater ensures signal quality for SCSI-2 devices installed in external SCSI enclosures. It allows longer cable lengths so that practical configurations are possible. This enhanced repeater card provides high-availability function by allowing the use of two repeater cards to be installed on the single SCSI bus supported by two SCSI host adapters used in clustering configurations. This function can provide the hardware link for failover recovery in cluster configurations when clustering software becomes available.
PC Server Wide SCSI Terminator
The PC Server Wide SCSI Terminator is a 16-bit active terminator that provides termination to the internal SCSI bus in configurations not requiring a hard disk drive. This option is required for SCSI termination of PC Server 325 and 330 open-bay systems that do not have a primary hard disk drive installed within the server. It should be installed on the last drop of the 16-bit internal SCSI cable contained in these systems.
IBM SCSI Storage Extender Cable
The IBM SCSI Storage Extender Cable is a 16-bit, SCSI-2 external cable designed to daisy-chain two PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosures from a single controller. Up to twelve 4.51GB Wide Ultra SCSI Hot-Swap Hard Disk Drives can be installed in two enclosures from either a PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter or PC Server Ultra Wide SCSI PCI Adapter.
This cable is 6 meters in length with a 68-pin SCSI connector at each end and a third connector in the middle of the cable (3 meters from each end).

The PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure is supported in configurations where the PC Server 3519 is connected to an external SCSI connector of a PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter or PC Server Ultra Wide SCSI PCI Adapter installed and supported in one of the following PC Servers. The PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure requires a dedicated SCSI channel with either of these SCSI adapters. PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure is not supported in configurations that split the SCSI bus.

LIMITATIONS:
o No more than two 5.25-inch or 3.5-inch, half-high hard disk drives can be installed in the three 5.25-inch non-hot-swap drive bays of the PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure. These drives must be installed in the bays adjacent to the middle bay. To ensure adequate air flow, the middle half-high bay cannot be populated with a device.
o Wide Ultra SCSI drives can be installed in the PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure; however, Ultra SCSI mode is not supported. Wide Ultra SCSI drives installed in the PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure must be operated in a SCSI-2 Fast/Wide mode.

o PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure contains a lockable front door designed to prevent unauthorized personnel access to removable media devices and hot-swap disk drives.
Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), as defined in the American National Institute (ANSI) standard X3.131-1986, provides a port for attachment of external devices. The SCSI bus may be internal or external to the system unit. PC Servers using a PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter or PC Server Ultra Wide SCSI PCI Adapter attached to the PC Server 3519 Rack Storage Expansion Enclosure are in conformance with this standard by having external ports on both the server and the expansion enclosure.
It is a customer's responsibility to ensure that the server and PC Server 3519 are secure to prevent sensitive data from being removed via the external SCSI ports. The PC Server can be secured through PC Server Security Cover options, while security of the PC Server 3519 must be maintained through the selection of a rack cabinet with appropriate security features.

LIMITATIONS:
The PC Server SCSI-2 F/W Enhanced Repeater limitations include:
o This adapter supports SCSI-2 Fast/Wide mode. Ultra SCSI mode is not supported.
o A maximum of 12 Fast/Wide SCSI-2 hot-swap disk drives are supported on a single SCSI channel when attached to a PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter or PC Server Ultra Wide SCSI PCI Adapter. A maximum of seven SCSI devices are supported on a single channel when attached to all other supported SCSI adapters.
o Daisy-chaining of backplanes within a PC Server Enterprise Expansion Tower is supported when attached to either the PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter or PC Server Ultra Wide SCSI PCI Adapter configured as follows:
- Up to two backplanes when using slim-high, hot-swap hard disk drives
- Up to three backplanes when using half-high, hot-swap hard disk drives
o Daisy-chaining is supported on other SCSI adapters in the following configuration:
- Up to two backplanes when using half-high, hot-swap hard disk drives

Refer to the COMPATIBILITY section for cables required to attach PC Server SCSI-2 F/W Enhanced Repeater to various SCSI adapters.
The PC Server Enterprise Expansion Tower connects to one or more external SCSI-2 Fast/Wide connectors on the host system through an external cable that goes to the back of the enclosure. An internal cable brings the signal from the back of the enclosure to the backplane or media bays. When a PC Server SCSI-2 F/W Enhanced Repeater is installed in the PC Server Enterprise Expansion Tower, the external cable will instead attach to the external connector of the PC Server SCSI-2 F/W Enhanced Repeater and the internal cable will attach to the internal connector on the PC Server SCSI-2 F/W Enhanced Repeater. Any additional cabling configurations to support internal expansion of the PC Server Enterprise Expansion Tower remain unchanged from the PC Server Enterprise Expansion Tower announcement.
