PC Server 320 supports a maximum of 256MB of parity or ECC-on-SIMM memory. All supported system memory is addressable through direct memory access (DMA). Maximum system memory can be achieved in all models by using 32MB SIMMs.
PC Server 320 systems support 4MB, 8MB, 26MB, and 32MB parity, 72-pin industry standard memory SIMMs (70 ns). In addition, 32MB and 64MB ECC-on-SIMM memory kits are supported. All memory SIMMs must be installed in matched pairs.
PCI/EISA models contain high-performance BIOS that use 128KB of system memory; an additional 256KB is reserved for installing options that may require additional memory for BIOS shadowing.
PC Server 320 PCI/EISA models support full-length adapters in EISA slots one, two, and three and PCI slots zero and one. The remaining EISA and PCI slots support half-length adapters.
Hot-swapping of hard disk drives in non-array PC Server 320 models is currently supported without system reboot when using NetWare 3.12 and 4.1 and Windows NT 3.51 network operating systems.
Microprocessor SMP upgrades must be of the same clock speed. Mixing microprocessors of different speeds is not supported.
The location of the media eject button on the industry standard diskette drive, and the lack of support for an electronic eject 2.88MB diskette drive option, may be a limitation for customers with certain disabilities.
PC Server 320 systems using the SCSI-2 Fast/Wide PCI Adapter, or containing an integrated SCSI controller, have three SCSI-2 connectors. Two connectors are internal, one fast and one fast/wide. The third external connector is fast/wide. Systems containing an adapter allow for any two of these ports, in any combination, to be used for SCSI device attachment. Systems with an integrated SCSI controller allow for either of the internal connectors to be used but not both at the same time; however, the external connector can always be utilized.
PC Server 320 models can support a maximum of two IBM PC Server SCSI-2 Fast/Wide PCI-Bus RAID Adapters per system unit.
Customers should use the version of ServerGuide that ships with the system, or a later version, to load software and drivers. Earlier versions of ServerGuide may not be compatible with the server.
