To install an optional microprocessor and heat-sink:

  1. Remove the Top Cover:

    1. Turn off the server and all peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords and external cables.

    2. Press the button and lift the cover-release latch. The cover will move to the rear approximately one half inch.

    3. Lift the cover off the server and set it aside.

  2. Remove the Top Cover Bracket:

    1. Slide the blue latches on the top cover bracket toward the center of the server and then tilt and lift the bracket out of the server.

  3. Install the optional Microprocessor and Heat-sink:

    1. Remove the dust cover by rotating the microprocessor release lever to the fully open position and open the retainer bracket.

    2. Carefully remove the dust cover from the socket and set it aside.

    3. With the microprocessor secured in the installation tool, position it over the microprocessor socket using the holes in the tool and the screws on the microprocessor bracket for alignment.

    4. Twist the handle of the installation tool counterclockwise to insert the microprocessor into the socket.

    5. Close the retainer bracket and rotate the release lever to the closed position to secure the processor in the socket.

Here is a closer look at the microprocessor tool shown with the handle in the locked position and a microprocessor properly aligned.

Note the alignment indicators on the tool and microprocessor.

    6. With the heat-sink release lever in the open position place the heat-sink on the microprocessor, using the front of system arrow, clips on the heat-sink and the tabs on the microprocessor socket for alignment and positioning.

Note the arrow pointing to the front of the system.

    7. Press down firmly on the heat-sink until it is seated and then rotate the heat-sink release lever to the closed and locked position.

    8. Use the same procedure to install any additional Microprocessors and Heat-sinks if required.

  4. Install the Top Cover Bracket:

    1. Place the top-cover bracket on the server using the rear tabs for alignment and then rotate it into place.

    2. Slide the blue latches on the bracket toward the outside of the server until latched in place.

Here is a closer look at the rear tabs on the bracket and the slots in the chassis.

  5. Install the Top Cover:

    1. With the cover release latch in the open position place the cover on top of the server so that the tabs on the cover align with the slots in the chassis.

    2. Slide the top cover forward while closing the release latch.
