Instructions for removing the Hot-swap Hard Disk drive on an IBM System x3400 M2, x3500 M2

To remove a Hot-swap Hard Disk Drive:
Open the Bezel:
- Unlock the side cover if required.
- Position your finger on the depressed area on the left side of the bezel and rotate the bezel away from the server.
Remove the Hot-swap Hard Disk Drive:
- Press the release latch to unlock the drive handle and rotate it to the open position.
- Pull the drive assembly out of the bay approximately one inch, wait 45 seconds for the drive to spin down, and then remove the drive from the bay.
- To remove a filler panel, squeeze the retention tabs together and pull the filler panel from the bay.
- Use the same procedure to remove any additional drives or filler panels if required.
Note: To maintain proper cooling do not operate the server for more than 10 minutes without a drive or a filler panel installed in each bay.
