Abstract
Front fan cage removal movie for the IBM System x3500.
Content
To remove the Front fan cage:
Remove the Left-side Cover:
- Unlock the side cover and press the cover-release latch down while rotating the top edge of the cover away from the server; then, lift the cover off the server and set it aside.
Remove the Bezel:
- Release the three tabs on the left edge of the bezel and rotate the bezel away from the server; then, pull the bezel away from the server.
Here's a closer look at a latching tab. - Place the system on its right side this is the recommended service position.
Remove the Hot-swap Fans:
- Open the fan-locking handle by sliding the orange release latch in the direction of the arrow.
- Pull upward on the free end of the handle to lift the fan out of the server.
- Use the same procedure to remove any additional fans.
Remove the Power Supply:
- Press the locking latch on the power supply and pull the power supply out of the bay. Use the same procedure to remove Power Supply 2, if installed.
- Lift the Power supply cage handle and Rotate the Cage out of the chassis until it latches in the open position.

Remove the Processor Front Duct:
- Grasp the processor front duct in the center. Squeeze to release the retaining latch and lift it straight up and out of the server.
Remove the Front Fan Cage:
- Press the fan cage release latches toward the sides of the server. The cage will lift up slightly when the release latches are fully open.
- Grasp the cage and lift it out of the server.
