To remove a disk backplane

Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect all power cords and external cables.

Disengage the hard disk drives:

  1. Pull any hard disk drives that are installed out of the server slightly to disengage them from the backplane.

Remove the top cover:

  1. Rotate the top cover release latch up and slide the cover approximately one-half inch to the rear.
  2. Lift the cover off and place it aside.

Remove the fan bracket assembly:

  1. Place your thumbs on the metal tabs of the fan-bracket-assembly levers and pinch the tab and blue release latch together
  2. Raise the levers, and lift the fan-bracket assembly out of the server.

Remove the 3.5 inch backplane:

  1. Disconnect the signal and power cables from the backplane.
  2. Press down on the blue release latches and the backplane will tilt out.
  3. Lift the backplane out of the server and place it on an ESD protected surface.
