Abstract

Movie that provides instructions on removing and installing the processor in a BladeCenter HS20, HS40 and LS20.

Text of the audio portion of the processor removal and installation movie

To remove an HS20 Blade:

  1. Shut down the operating system and power off the blade.
  2. Wait 30 seconds for the disk drive to spin down.
  3. Squeeze the latches to release the handles, then rotate the handles to the open position, slide the blade out and place it on an ESD mat or flat non-conductive surface.

To remove the HS20 Blade cover:

  1. Press in the cover tabs to release the latches, and then rotate the cover up and lift it off.

To remove the Blade Server bezel:

  1. Press the bezel assembly release tabs, slide the bezel out of the channel to gain access to control panel cable.
  2. Disconnect the control panel cable and then remove the bezel from the blade server.

To remove the processor:

  1. Loosen the two captive screws, and lift off the heat sink.
  2. Rotate the ZIF lever to the open position, and lift off the processor.
  3. Place it on the ESD mat.

To install the processor:

  1. Ensure the ZIF lever is in the open position.
  2. Position the triangle on the processor with the triangle on the socket, then carefully seat the processor and closed the ZIF connector to secure.

To install the heat sink:

  1. Position the heat sink on top of the processor.
  2. Alternate tightening the two captive screws until they are fully seated.

    NOTE
    : Do not touch the thermal grease on the bottom of the heat sink. Touching the thermal grease will contaminate it. If the grease becomes contaminated, contact your local IBM service representative.

To install the Blade Server bezel:

  1. Connect the control panel cable to the bezel and then slide the bezel into the channels on the Blade Server until the latch tabs secure it.

To install the HS20 Blade cover:

  1. Position the cover hinges over the pins in the blade chassis, and then rotate the cover down until the latches secure it.
    Here is a closer look at the hinge and pin action.

To install an HS20 Blade:

  1. Slide the blade in and then close the latches simultaneously until secured by the latches.
