Understanding differences between CSPP and CSPK print transactions in CICS TS

Question & Answer

Question

What determines whether the CSPP or CSPK transaction is initiated when you are printing a screen from CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS)?

Answer

PRINT=YES, PA1, PA2, or PA3 is a system initialization table (SIT) parameter that provides 3270 screen print support. When the terminal operator presses the print key as defined in the SIT (for example, PA1 if PRINT=PA1), CSPK will be attached if no transaction is running at the terminal. If the terminal operator presses the PRINT key and a transaction is running at the terminal, CSPP is attached.

There is also a third way to print a screen that is by pressing the PRINT key on the terminal keyboard. This function is purely hardware and does not involve CICS at all. Therefore, CICS will not initiate transaction CSPP or CSPK.
