Error "ISAM error: too many users" is returned

Problem

This document describes the error the error "ISAM error: too many users" when you are trying to connect to a database

Symptom


You are trying to connect to a database using IBM® Informix® OnLine and you receive the following message:


529: Cannot attach to shared memory.
129: ISAM error: too many users


In the message log this message is returned:


11:31:56  User table overflow - user id 200, process id 17075

Cause


The current maximum number of users has been exceeded.

Resolving The Problem


Increase the USERS parameter in the TBCONFIG configuration file.
Also increase the TRANSACTIONS parameter in the TBCONFIG configuration file to be at equal or higher than USERS. See linked documents.
