Answer

Follow the steps below to process (Inbound) an EDI document containing a BIN Segment with Binary data:

    • In the Application Ingtegration Map right-click on the BIN segment and go to Properties.

    • Click on the Special Tab and place a checkmark for Binary.

    • Right click on the LENGTH OF BINARY DATA element and select Properties.

    • Click on the Validation Tab and set the data-type dropdown to 'Bin Len.'

    • Right click on the BINARY DATA element and select Properties.

    • Click on the Validation Tab and set the data-type dropdown to 'Bin Data.'

Continue the normal development of this map then Save Compile Register and Associate with a Partner Profile.

      • In the GENTRAN GUI go to Tools-->Configuration and select the Splitter Tab.

      • Type the name of the Segment in the field called "Name of Binary Segment That Gentran Should Look For." Typcally the value is BIN.

      • Save out of the Configuration view.

At this point the Inbound EDI file may by translated. The output of the BIN segment will be in the :\GENSRVNT\IntIn directory with a .bin extension. The EDI portion will also be in the IntIn with a .int extension. Note that the system file names for both the .int and .bin files will be alike.
