Problem(Abstract)
Error when opening a map: This type of map is not supported. It cannot be opened. Unexpected file format.
Symptom
When attempting to open an existing map the following messages?are generated as pop-up errors:
- This type of map is not supported
- It cannot be opened
- Unexpected file format
Also when attempting?create a new map using the New Map Wizard map types are not available in the?Map Types?drop-down list

Resolving the problem
This issue is caused by missing information in the Windows Registry or by insufficient access to the Registry.
To verify whether or not the required keys exist within the Windows Registry follow the steps below while logged in on the machine that the Map Editor is installed to:
1.?????? Open the Windows Registry Editor
a.?????? Click on the Windows Start button
b.?????? Select the Run option
c.??????? Type the following command into the Open: field:?REGEDIT
d.?????? Click on the OK button
2.?????? Within the Windows Registry Editor navigate to the following key:
a.?????? For Gentran:Server for Windows or Gentran:Server for Unix:?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sterling Commerce\GENTRAN\Common Components\Integration\<<em>Map Editor version</em>>\MapTypes
b.?????? For Gentran Integration Suite or Sterling Integrator:?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sterling Commerce\Sterling Integrator\Map Editor\<<em>Map Editor version</em>>\MapTypes
3.?????? Verify that beneath the MapTypes Registry Key (directory) that several sub-keys exist.?
a.?????? The number an name of the keys will vary depending on the installation type.
b.?????? Gentran:Server for Windows will have the following sub-keys:
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? i.????? 1 through 14 and 24
c.??????? Gentran:Server for Unix will have the following sub-keys:
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? i.????? 15 through 23
d.?????? Gentran Integration Suite or Sterling Integrator will have the following sub-keys:

If the any of the sub-keys are missing within the registry the Map Editor will need to be reinstalled.
If all of the correct sub-keys exist within the registry the Windows User Account used to create and modify maps does not have full control access to the needed registry keys.?A system administrator will be needed to grant the Windows User Account in question access to the Sterling Commerce entries within the registry.?
The Windows User Account will need full control access to the following registry key and all sub-keys:
