FTP over Secure Sockets Layer (FTP/S)
Sterling File Transfer Service supports FTP over Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) also known as FTP/S. SSL is a commonly-used protocol for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. SSL uses the public-and-private key encryption system from RSA which also includes the use of a digital certificate. The use of the digital certificate is the only difference between FTP and FTP/S. Sterling File Transfer Service supports standard FTP/S with clear control channel (CCC) enabled.
You do not need to send your digital certificate to IBM?.
Your system will either upload data to Sterling File Transfer Service (also called a put or push) or download data from Sterling File Transfer Service (also called a get or pull).
FTP/S uses two channels a data channel and a control channel. For Sterling File Transfer Service the data channel is encrypted and the password and user ID are encrypted on the control channel. However since the remainder of the control channel is clear text you should not include sensitive information in your filenames.
