Integrating water meter data

Answer

IBM brand Intelligent Water Family IBM Work Optimization for Water Utilities Version 1.0.0

Integrating water meter data

Water meter data can be integrated with IBM? Work Optimization for Water Utilities by extractingthe data into a comma-separated value (CSV) file and loading the datainto IBM Work Optimization for Water Utilities.

As water is consumed water pressure activates a water meter andthe usage is recorded by the meter register. For the usage to be transmittedthe meters must be equipped with absolute encoder registers. Theseregisters interface with AMR systems to transmit the reading digitally.

Each water meter register is a Meter Transmission Unit (MTU) thattransmits the reading by a periodic radio signal to a Data CollectionUnit (DCU). The DCU data is consolidated into a central database. The central database then transfers the readings to the customer?sMDM system.

MDM data to be used with IBM Work Optimization for Water Utilities must be extractedinto a CSV file and imported into IBM Work Optimization for Water Utilities.

Note: If an automated system to collect usage data is not availablewater meter data can be collected manually and the CSV file createdwith the manually collected data.
