Question

User Visibility Configuration

Answer

User Visibility Configuration

You can restrict the user's visibility to certain geographicareas. This feature limits the amount of information a user can see.

Ifyou do not restrict access the user has visibility to all your shippingregions in Sterling TMS.

Youcan select the following visibility options:

Origin

Select an origin if you only want the user to view shipmentsand other Sterling TMS datafor freight that is departing from this area.

For exampleyou only want the user to track shipments that depart from California.

Destination

Select a destination if you only want the user to view shipmentsand other Sterling TMS datafor freight that is arriving in this area.

For example youonly want the user to track shipments that are being delivered toOhio.

You can use the And/Or featureto limit the user to viewing Sterling TMS informationfor an origin area destination area or both. Select one of the followingoptions:

And
You only want the user to view shipments that are being deliveredfrom the specified origin to the specified destination.
Or
The user can view shipments that are picked up at the specifiedorigin and delivered to any destination. The user can also view shipmentsthat are being delivered from any origin to the specified destination.

For example:

  1. You set up the following restricted visibility for a user:

    Origin:California

    or

    Destination: Ohio

  2. The user can track the following shipments:
    • Shipments that depart from California and are delivered to anydestination.
    • Shipments that depart from any origin and are delivered to Ohio.
  3. You change the restricted visibility to the following option:

    Origin:California

    and

    Destination: Ohio

  4. The user can only track shipments that are picked up in Californiaand delivered to Ohio.

You have the following options for selecting an area:

  • Enter a complete area name. Sterling TMS displays thatname on the right side of the page.
  • Enter the beginning of a name and then press Enter. Sterling TMS returns allareas that start with those letters. If Sterling TMS returns multipleareas the origin or destination list box displays a red border. Youcan then select the area that you want.
  • Click Select to choose an area.
  • Click Create to define an area.
  • After you select an area click the Origin Area or DestinationArea link to view details about that area.

Thefollowing diagram shows an example of restricting visibility for twoshipper managers. One user can view origins in the Western Regionand the other can view origins in the Eastern Region. Both managerscan view origins in the Central Region.
