Process for Excluding Carriers from a Shipping Lane

Answer

Process for Excluding Carriers from a Shipping Lane

You can set up a route guide parameter to exclude a carrier fromreceiving loads for a specific shipping lane.

For example:
  • Carrier ABCD often delivers loads from your Minnesota plants toyour Pennsylvania distribution centers.
  • Carrier ABCD does not deliver to your distribution center in Philadelphia(which has the location code PHIL-DC).
The following workflow shows how to exclude Carrier ABCD from receivingshipments for the Minnesota to PHIL-DC shipping lane:
  1. Set up a rating lane in your contract with Carrier ABCD:
    • Origin: MN.USA
    • Destination: PA.USA
  2. Set up two route guide parameters for Carrier ABCD. To definethese parameters click Add on the CarrierRank and Type tab of the Route Guide Parameters page.
OriginDestinationCarrier type
MN.USAPA.USAPrimary
MN.USAPHIL-DCExclude
  1. Based on your contract lane and the route guide parameters CarrierABCD is eligible to deliver shipments from any origin in Minnesotato any destination in Pennsylvania except the PHIL-DC location.
  2. When you tender a shipment that has an origin of Minnesota anda destination of PHIL-DC Sterling TMS excludes CarrierABCD from the carrier selection plan for the shipment.
  3. You can use Route Guide Inquiry to find carriers that are excludedfrom delivering shipments in a certain lane. In this example specifythe following Route Guide Inquiry settings:
    • Origin: MN.USA
    • Destination: PHIL-DC
    • Carrier Type: Exclude
