Add Route Guide Rule Page

Use the Add or Edit Route Guide Rule pageto set up the tendering method for a Route Guide rule.

Add Route Guide Rule Page

Definethe following settings:

Tender Method

Select the tendering method such as broadcast or sequential.

Tender Response Time

Specify how long a carrier has to respond to a tender.

Forexample:

  • Sequential tendering: You define 1 hour as the Tender ResponseTime. The first carrier has 1 hour to respond to the tender. At theend of that hour Sterling TMS tendersto the second carrier.
  • Broadcast tendering: You define 2 hours as the Tender ResponseTime. All carriers who receive the tender have up to 2 hours to respond(unless another carrier accepts the tender first).
  • Broadcast for capacity tendering: You define 3 hours as the TenderResponse Time. All carriers who receive the tender for capacity haveup to 3 hours to respond.

If no carriers accept a tender by the end of the Tender ResponseTime Sterling TMS withdrawsthe tender and sends an expiration notice to the carriers.

Carrier Selection Type

You can select which carriers you want to tender to:

  • Primary carriers only
  • Primary and secondary carriers
  • All carriers that you do business with in Sterling TMS
  • Secondary carriers only
  • Backup carriers only
  • Secondary and backup carriers
Sort Type

Select how you want to sort carriers for manual and sequentialtenders. Sterling TMS usesthe sorting option when it displays contract lanes and carriers onthe Route Guide Inquiry and Carrier Selection pages.

Youcan select one of these sorting options:

Rate
The carrier with the lowest rate is listed first.
Commit Quantity
The carrier with the highest number of committed loads is listedfirst.
Rank
The carriers with a rank of 1 are listed first.
Factored Cost
The carrier with the lowest factored cost is listed first. Youcan use factored costs to assign discounts to carriers based on goodservice and penalties to carriers based on poor service.
Carrier List

If you set Carrier Selection Type to Allyou can specify a carrier list:

  • The tender is sent to the carriers on the list instead of to allcarriers.
  • This option is available for broadcast broadcast for capacityand broadcast for review tender methods.

Select an existing carrier list or click Create to define acarrier list.

Bid Evaluation Type

Select how you want to evaluate the carrier bids for a broadcastfor capacity or broadcast for review tender.

Choose one of thefollowing options:

Manual
You manually review the bids and select the carrier. If you donot select a carrier by the end of the bid review period the PlanStatus of the shipment is set to Unplanned.
Automatic
The bid is automatically awarded to the low-cost bidder at theend of the carrier bid period unless all bids exceed the specifiedbase limit threshold.
Reviewed Auto
If you have not selected a carrier by the end of the bid reviewperiod the bid is automatically awarded to the low-cost bidder unlessall bids exceed the specified base limit threshold.
Base Limit Threshold

You can specify the maximum cost that you will pay for theshipment:

  • This option is only available for a broadcast for capacity tender.
  • You only set this option if you set the Bid EvaluationType to Automatic or ReviewedAuto.
  • If the lowest-cost bid is higher than the base limit thresholdthe bid is not automatically awarded. The Plan Status of the shipmentis set to Unplanned.
  • You can specify a dollar amount or a percentage of the base ratefor the contract lane.
Bid Review Duration

Specify how long you want to review the bids after the carrierbidding period ends:

  • This option is only available for the broadcast for capacity andbroadcast for review tender methods.
  • You only set this option if you set the Bid EvaluationType to Manual or ReviewedAuto.
  • You can set the time in minutes or hours.
  • Carriers cannot bid on the shipment during the review period.

Your bid review time takes into account your location hoursin the working calendar. For example the location is open from 8a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. If the shipper review time istwo hours and the review starts at 4 p.m. Monday the review endsat 9 a.m. Tuesday.

When you are finished click Save tosave your changes and return to the Add or Edit Route Guide page.
