Match Pay Tolerance and Threshold Overview

Answer

Match Pay Tolerance and Threshold Overview

You can set up Match Pay Tolerances which Sterling TMSuses to manage your freight payment process.

Sterling TMS uses the following process to apply the match paytolerances and thresholds:

  • Sterling TMS compares the total charges submitted by the carrierto the voucher charges that are calculated by Sterling TMS.
  • If the carrier charges are within the tolerances you definedSterling TMS automatically updates the voucher charges to use thecarrier invoice charges.
  • When the carrier charges are outside the defined tolerances SterlingTMS generates charge adjustments for shipper users to review. Shipperusers can accept reject or adjust charges from the carrier invoice. For information about reconciling charges see the IBM? SterlingTransportation Management System Freight PaymentUser Guide for Shippers.

Sterling TMS Customer Support enables the Match Pay feature forshippers. If your organization wants to use Match Pay contact yourenrollment manager or Customer Support.

There are two ways to configure Match Pay tolerances:

  • Minimum and maximum thresholds which you define as flatdollar amounts
  • Minimum and maximum tolerances which you define as percentagesof the voucher charges that are calculated by Sterling TMS

The tolerance percentages and threshold flat amounts are designedto be used together.

The Minimum Tolerance represents the lowest variant amount SterlingTMS automatically pays. For example:

  • You set 10 percent as the minimum tolerance.
  • Sterling TMS automatically pays any carrier invoice that is upto 10 percent less than the voucher charges calculated by SterlingTMS.

The Maximum Tolerance represents the highest variant amount SterlingTMS automatically pays. For example:

  • You set 5 percent as the maximum tolerance.
  • Sterling TMS automatically pays any carrier invoice that is upto 5 percent more than the voucher charges calculated by the system.

You can also specify a Minimum Threshold and Maximum Thresholdas a flat dollar amount above or below the rated charges. For example:

  • You set the Minimum Threshold to $50 and the Maximum Thresholdto $100.
  • Sterling TMS automatically pays any carrier invoice that is upto $50 less or up to $100 more than the voucher charges calculatedby the system.
Note: Indicating zero (0) for a tolerance or threshold means thatthere can be no variation between the carrier invoice charges andthe voucher charges calculated by Sterling TMS. The system locks anyvoucher that exceeds tolerances and thresholds until the shipper userreconciles the unapproved charges.
