About Dedicated Fleets
Adedicated fleet is a trucking fleet that is owned by the carrier butis licensed for exclusive use by one or more shippers. A shipper arrangeswith the carrier to use the dedicated fleet which helps ensure thatthe needed truck capacity is always available.
Shippers can use the dedicated fleet capabilities in Sterling TMS to managededicated fleets which are owned by the carrier or private fleetswhich are owned by the shipper.
In Sterling TMSa dedicated fleet includes the following components:
- The fleet itself which has a unique SCAC.
- The trucks that make up the fleet. In Sterling TMS these dedicatedtrucks are also referred to as assets or tractors.
- The billing cycle which is used to track a truck and dedicatedfleet shipments for a specific time period. Nearly all shippers usea weekly billing cycle in Sterling TMS. This approachallows users to plan and manage the trucks and fleet for the currentweek.
- The shipper assigns legs to the route of each truck in a billingcycle. Each leg can be a shipment or a non-shipment leg such as deadhead distanceor a repositioning move. In Sterling TMS these legsare also referred to as segments.
