Defining Route Guide Rules for a Dedicated Fleet

About this task

Dedicated fleet shippers use the Route Guide to performthese tasks:

  • Organize and sort carrier contract lanes.
  • Define the tendering process which Sterling TMS uses to submitshipments to carriers.

Your shipper organization might want the carrier to managethe dedicated fleet for you. To make this process more efficientyou can set up your Route Guide rules to automatically tender shipmentsto your dedicated carrier.

Procedure

To set up automatic carrier selection for a RouteGuide rule follow these steps:

  1. Click Edit Account > Step 6 Contracts.The Set Up Contracts page opens.
  2. Select Route Guide and click View/SetUp. The Route Guide Builder page opens.
  3. Click Add. The Add Route Guide pageopens.
  4. Enter the name of the Route Guide rule.
  5. Enter the Effective Date and ExpirationDate for the rule.
  6. Select the Origin and Destination tocover the shipping lane covered by the dedicated fleet.
    Tip: You can set up multiple Route Guide rules to cover theorigins and destinations of the shipping lanes supported by your dedicatedfleet.
  7. Set Automatic Carrier Selection to Yes. Sterling TMS will automaticallytender every shipment that uses this Route Guide rule based on theTendering Strategies you define in Step 1 of the Shipper ConfigurationWizard.
  8. In the Equipment section click Add todefine the equipment that the dedicated fleet will use.
  9. Click Continue to open the secondAdd Route Guide page.
  10. Set the Mode to Truckload.A dedicated fleet can only transport truckload shipments.
  11. Set the Movement Type to Tour.
  12. Select other Route Guide fields.
  13. In the Rules section click Add toopen the Add Route Guide Rule page.
    • Set the Tender Method to Manual.You want to automatically tender the shipments to a single dedicatedcarrier.
    • Specify the Tender Response Time. Yourcarrier has this amount of time to accept the tender before it expires.
    • Set the Carrier Type to Primary.
    • Set the Sort Type to Rate.
  14. Click Save to save the tenderingsettings and return to the Add Route Guide page.
  15. Click Save to create the Route Guiderule and return to the Route Guide Builder page.
