Question & Answer

Question

Examples of Tender Time Fence Calculation

Answer

Examples of Tender Time Fence Calculation

In the following examples Sterling TMS uses the laterof these two times as the tender time fence:

  1. Pickup time minus Amount of Time Prior to Departure for Tender
  2. Creation time plus Minimum Shipment Availability Time Window Priorto Tender

Example: Pickup Time Minus Amount of Time Prior toDeparture for Tender

The following example shows how Sterling TMS calculatesthe tender time fence for a typical shipment which is created threedays before the departure date:

  1. You set the Amount of Time Prior to Departure for Tender to 48hours.
  2. You set the Minimum Shipment Availability Time WindowPrior to Tender to 2 hours.
  3. You set Use Work Week Calendar to No.
  4. You create the shipment on 19 August at noon.
  5. The planned departure window for the shipment is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.on 22 August.

Sterling TMS makesthe following calculations:

  • Pickup time (5 p.m. on 22 August) minus Amount of TimePrior to Departure for Tender (48 hours) = 5 p.m. on 20August.
  • Creation time (19 August at noon) plus Minimum ShipmentAvailability Time Window Prior to Tender (2 hours) = 2p.m. on 19 August.

Sterling TMS orthe shipper must tender the shipment by the later time (the tendertime fence = 5 p.m. on 20 August).

Example: Creation Time Plus Minimum Shipment AvailabilityTime

This example uses the same values as the first exampleexcept that the shipment is created much closer to the planned departure.

  1. You set the Amount of Time Prior to Departure for Tender to 48hours.
  2. You set the Minimum Shipment Availability Time WindowPrior to Tender to 2 hours.
  3. You set Use Work Week Calendar to No.
  4. You create the shipment on 21 August at noon.

  • Creation time (21 August at noon) plus Minimum ShipmentAvailability Time Window Prior to Tender (2 hours) = 2p.m. on 21 August.

Sterling TMS orthe shipper must tender the shipment by the later time (the tendertime fence = 2 p.m. on 21 August).
