Answer

Stop Sequence Example in Consolidation Workbench

The following example shows the process Sterling TMS uses to determinesthe stop order.

  1. On The Execution Options page you set Build RouteUsing to Sort Order. The systemwill build the routes based on the sequence in which you submittedthe orders to Sterling TMS.
  2. On the Orders tab of the Execution moduleyou enter three order numbers in this sequence:
    Order NumberOriginDestination
    123ChicagoPhiladelphia
    456MinneapolisPhiladelphia
    789ClevelandPhiladelphia
  3. You want to create an inbound delivery to your Philadelphia warehouse. You search for orders that are being delivered to this warehouse. Sterling TMS finds thesethree orders.
  4. You select the three orders on the Orders taband click Consolidation Workbench. The ConsolidationWorkbench opens and displays the three orders in the Orders table.
  5. Select the three orders and click Consolidate. Sterling TMS consolidatesthe orders into a shipment and refreshes the page to display the Stopstable. The stops appear in this order:
    Stop NumberLocationType
    1ChicagoPickup
    2MinneapolisPickup
    3ClevelandPickup
    4PhiladelphiaDelivery

The stops are based on the following rules:

    • The three pickup stops are listed first and the delivery stopis listed last.
    • The pickup stops are listed in the sequence that you entered theorders in Step 2. As a result Chicago is listed as the first stop.
    • Sterling TMS doesnot consider the planned departure or planned arrival windows whenit sets up the default stop sequence.
  6. You decide to manually change the stop sequence. Click Reorder toopen the Edit Stops page. You change the route to start in Minneapoliswhich reduces the total distance:
    Stop NumberLocationType
    1MinneapolisPickup
    2ChicagoPickup
    3ClevelandPickup
    4PhiladelphiaDelivery
