About Contract Levels

Answer

About Contract Levels

Contracts with carriers have three levels:

Contract

Defines the general information with a carrier such as thetype of contract and the effective and expiration dates.

Section

Defines the mode movement type service type and fleet type. The section organizes lanes into different categories.

Lanes

Defines the information Sterling TMS uses to calculateshipment rates such as origin destination and rate.

About Contract Sections

Each contract can contain one or moresections. Shippers can define a section for each carrier fleet andindicate whether the fleet is dedicated preferred or private. Shipperscan also define a section by the rating method such as Flat Rateor Full Route Distance. There are many other characteristics you canuse for each section such as:

  • Equipment Type and Size
  • Movement Type
  • Service Type

Sections provide flexibility with organizing your contractinformation. For example a shipper can define a section for dry vansand another section for refrigerated trailers. Additionally sectionscould be used for different movement types such as outbound and interplantshipments charging different rates for each section.

About Rating Lanes

Each contract section can contain oneor more lanes. Rating lanes are the routes used by Sterling TMS to calculateshipment charges for freight that is delivered from the origin tothe destination. In the lane level of the contract the origin anddestination are used to define the lane. In addition other attributesare defined such as whether the linehaul charge includes rate breaks.
